Buying Advice L3800 or MX4700 or MX5100?

Yeah, after some more thought, I need to get out of my head any of these bigger tractors, such as the MX series. I think I need to search for some pictures of folks using these smaller tractors to see what they're really capable of. I might end up with a B series...lol. :)

Chris

Here are a few pics of the type of work I regularly do with my B-series. Hope this doesn't confuse your decision even more. :D

Site I excavated (using loader w/ tooth bar) for a small pole barn:

Also drilled holes, set posts, and set trusses (shhh, don't tell the safety police):

Excavated, graded and spread base material for round pen:

Regardless of the size of the tractor you go with, I think you would be happier with the premium series in each respective class. Skip the standard B, L, and MX, and look at the Premium B, Grand L and the M series. (MX is a basic, small version of the M series, and is actually built on a grand L chassis, but without the grand L features)

Here to make it easy:

B3030 or L3240/3540.

You already decided you don't want the standard L, and the MX is too big. So take a look at those two tractors and pick one. See which one you like best and which fits your budget best (including associated implements.) Either would be plenty capable at the tasks you listed, both are very nice tractors.

K I'll check out the b series since I haven't done that yet. Is the B3030 the top of the line largest b sized tractor?

I emailed him to see what he thinks about his B series and whether he compared it to a L series when he was looking to buy his. Thanks for the heads up.

The B3030 is the the largest chassis size in the B-series and also the one with the most features. The B3200 and B3300 have a little more power (on the spec sheet) but in reality they all just have about 30hp. Based on your info the B3030 is the only one I would consider.

On nice thing about the large B series is the long wheel base, in fact it is longer than the L3800 which makes for a smoother ride and better loader operation.

Just for comparison, a well equipped B3030 w/ loader would be about $24000, a L3240 setup the same way (w/ the small loader) would be around $26600. Step up to the L3540 and the HD loader and your looking at $28600. That extra $4600 could buy you a full setup of top of the line implements such as a box blade, landscape rake, mower and grading scraper. BTW, those are list prices off the Kubota website, if you shop around you could get as much as 15% off those.

K, I'm going to look at them to compare. Not to open a whole new can of worms but what's everyone's opinion of the Mahindra tractors?

Yeah that's the only one I'd consider I think, but it appears to be a stout tractor from what I can tell from the specs.
