At the risk of opening my mouth and removing all doubt, can some one help?

I have been using my 3710 with loader in Low Speed and the
hand throttle adjusted to 1800 to 2000 RPM.

I've just purchased a used Landpride 2560 HD Rotary Cutter.

Once connected, do I engage the PTO first and then increase the throttle to the 540 mark on the RPM gauge?

The manual is not clear on this.

It's been dicussed before, but I can't find the thread.

Thank you, David.

Sure, thats a fine way to do it. I typically have my engine around 2000 RPM, maybe a little less and slowly either engage the PTO lever or the fully engage the PTO lever with the clutch in and slowly engage the clutch which in turn engages the PTO. Either way, rather then get the blades to full RPM, I let them get up to speed in a couple of seconds. I am not positive the L3710 does it this way, the L3830 does. On another note, I rarely run the PTO at 540, I typically am around 500 RPM (or less) on the PTO and have found the power and cut at that speed is great.

I am also unsure on this. With an HST you can either use the main clutch to take up the load, or with the main clutch engaged, take up the load via the PTO clutch. So....is it better to put wear on the main clutch or on the pto clutch.

In either case, I believe it is best to engage the pto before raising the RPM to working level.

Any comments?

This is pretty well the recommended way to engage any PTO equipment. If you do it any other way, it will shock components in the drive train. There are some tractors that have a gentle engage feature, such as the MF 1400 series. But even with that feature, I still try to lower the RPM before engagement.

According to page 28 of my B7510HSD Operator's Manual:

-----------------------------------------------------------
To avoid shock to the PTO, reduce engine speed when engaging the PTO, then open the throttle to the recommended speed.
