L35 or L4610???

Hi Joe - If I remember correctly, leaching line trenches are dug 24" wide. The eleven-foot-class backhoe on the L48 is well-matched to a 24" bucket - plenty of power. I have a very similar setup and I don't find it disturbs the nearby ground. The larger bucket is also quite nice for getting out the occasional grain-bag-size rock.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't even checked it out, I just figured that 12" would work best. You may have saved me the extra cost of 12" bucket. Now if I could just make up my mind on the tractor.

I agree, the machine seems to be very well matched to the 24" bucket. I was expecting it to be too big, but it seems just right. It seems that most of my rocks are grain-bag sized or larger and it plucks them out very nicely.

To just dig all the time w/the 12" bucket on that hoe will make you mental,not to mention that wet material or clay will pack into that bucket to the point you'll have to constantly "bang' the bucket against the stops to dislodge the material,th 2 footer is the way to go.I believe Werk-Brau offers a pretty slick quick coupler for the hoe,that would give you the ability to switch buckets in a snap,the best part is you could start w/one bucket and as you get some duckets saved you could buy another,all though it is allways nice to put all the goods into one finance package,besides,whats a few thousand dollars to a bunch O' rich guys like us??/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I appreciate your comments on the bucket width. I'll move up in size. If I want to get multiple buckets, are the connections universal so that I can just shop for any used buckets, or do I need to worry about getting kubota brand?
BTW, have you got the 110 yet?

Hi again joe - it has been good to read about your fact gathering process on this - I think your decision is well-informed and you will be very happy with the L4610. Your original post said you were looking for a good general-purpose machine and you've homed in on a beauty. I was going to suggest a Bradco but I held back because I have one and I'm always bragging about their quality and design - people could be getting tired of hearing it. On the subject of backhoe bucket width, your soil conditions may be important - if you have clay or heavy/wet conditions, the wider buckets don't get plugged as often. I believe that Werk-Brau and or Wain-Roy(woods equipment)both make couplers and buckets for the 48.What you would do is tell your dealer you are interested in a coupler and bucket(s) for the hoe,he would then subtract the price of the Kubota bucket from your price and add the price of the coupler and bucket(s).Depending which coupler you go with WB or WR you would stick w/that companies buckets,I have WR coupler and buckets on my excavator and have been very happy with em'.Ahhhhh yes my 110.......no I haven't gotten it yet,but I've been told I'll have it the week of the 13th but I'm not gonna hold my breath but I will keep my fingers crossed/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gifthanks for askin',let us know how you make out ,at this rate you'll have an L48 before I have my 110!!

As I've done so many times in the past as I've been learning about all the features and pros and cons, I've changed my mind. I'm now getting an L4610 with FEL and a bradco 509 backhoe. It is not as heavy-weight as the L48 but I think it will fit my general purpose needs better because I am concerned that I may need to maneuver into some tight places where I might need to take the FEL off, and it definitely fits my budget better. I got what I think is a very good deal. I posted under a new subject of L4610 pricing. Here is the post:

After much investigation, studying, reading, changing my mind, and a lot of fun just dreaming, I THINK I've finally made up my mind that I'm going with an L4610 and bradco backhoe instead of the L35 or L48. It seems to fit in between the two for general purpose use and fits my budget. So here's what I'm looking at currently:
L4610 HST
LA 852 FEL
66" bucket
R4 tires
200 lb weights for rear
Extra hydraulic remote for front loader
Bradco 509 backhoe installed
16" hoe bucket
Delivered

All priced at $31,500 plus tax. The dealer has sharpened his pencil twice on the bid and I think this is his final one. I think for this area, this looks like a very good bid.

I'm also discussing exchanging the 66" loader bucket and getting a skid steer quick tach mount and an ATI GBC-66 Grapple bucket. For the quick tach mount and a demo grapple bucket it will run about an extra $2100.

Anyone else have any thoughts or comments on the configuration or price?

That sounds like a good deal,as I said before the most important thing is to have a machine that fits your needs the best and the 4610 does that,thats what matters most in the end.The ATI qt is a great option I had one on the 35,it allows so many more attachment options,you also may want to look into adding the rear hydraulics for the top n tilt also.Well keep us updated................it sounds like someone is getting a new toy.....uh,oh,I mean valuable workpiece to accomplish jobs around the house. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
