Well I got the tractor split apart, and the clutch splines were all but gone and smooth. The clutch itself was in great shape. The input shaft to the hst was a bit worn as well. While apart I am going to replace the pressure plate, throw out bearing, and the input shaft to the hst.
I tend to use the pto a lot and wonder if any other operators aren't using the clutch when engaging the pto. That would be my best guess as why this happened.

Yikes, always use the clutch to engage the PTO. When replacing the throw out bearing don't forget to put on the 2 clips that connect it to the fork. Don't want to split it twice like I did...
