Per Kubota you are to change the oil every 200 hours. I put maybe 50 hours per year on my tractor (mainly snow plowing and bush hogging) so should I change the oil once a year at 50 hours our wait a couple of years and change it at 200?

Change the oil at least once a year no matter how many hours.

What Shimon said would be the best oil change plan when you put little hrs on your tractor.

I'm in the same boat as you - about 50 hrs per year. I did the full 50 hr service at the one year mark. From now on unless I hit the next maint hr interval I will at minimum change the engine oil/filter once a year and do all the other fluids and filters ever other year.

The base concept behind changing your oil once a year regardless of hours (milage) is that water is one of the contaminants that reduce the lubrication effectiveness of oil. Water condenses inside all gas/diesel engines due to temperature / humidity variations. Engines that are run frequently, "boil off" this condensation regularly. So it is less of a problem. And of course, engines that are run frequently, also get more hours / yr. So they would probably get the oil changed yearly anyway :)

AFAIK the auto industry's 12,000 mile oil change is based on the average car being driven roughly 1,000/mo. In other words -- a yearly oil change interval.

My manual for the L2800/L3400 shows oil changes at every 100 hours not the 200 it shows on the website. If you don't put a 100 hours a year on it I would change oil/filter once a year. See Talondancer's post about moisture.

Ditto what Shimon said..

200hrs or 1/year minimum.. whichever comes first.

Don't want that old oil setting in there with all the acids and contaminants.. etc..
