Tractor
kubota M7040 with FEL
I have bought 160 acres, intend on doing some finishing mowing , planting food plots and deepening some shallow ponds along with other activities. I was quoted 16250 for L3400hst with FEL, 3240 with hst 19600 and a 383oDT for 19800, my fear is I don't want to run out of tractor but I can see the 3400 doing most everything except doing the pond work, I have not worked on tractor in 20 years since kid so looking for some help. Like the Kubota's due to our original little Kubota still runs well, but the new farm will put it out of it's misery

The new Grand L series is pretty nice. I like the new 4240 I just bought. It seems the quote you have for the 3240 is pretty competitive. I'd vote for the 3240.

With as much land as you have and the work you want to do get the most tractor you can afford. It would be a shame to end up with not enough tractor. Are getting a BH or is the pond work going to be done with a FEL?

I intend on using FEL and box blade, can the larger front end loader lift a round bale or do I need a heavier chassis, I hope to get some cattle soon what would be a minimum size FEL that could be used to lift a round bale, would a larger FEL on 3240 do the job

Doc, I think you should look for a bit larger tractor. I have 160 acres, 50 momma cows, two bulls, and 45-50 calves. I currently have a TC40D and a JX85 (with cab). Depending on the size of your round bales (4x5,5x6) and how much pasture mowing you'll be doing (10 ft, batwing, etc), I'd look at something in the larger M series myself. I started with the TC40D (40 HP) and soon realized it was much too small for my 160 acres. The JX85 now handles most chores expect for some mowing, PHD work, backhoe, etc.

My two cents.

I appreciate the info I just told seller I would by his tractor, it is also a tc40 a, with 6' rhino brushhog, 6' landpride finish mower, trailer boxblade and FEL for little under $22,000, I thought this was good deal for 2006 model, probably won't have a bunch of cows for awhile, thanks for your input

Great news Doc, and a good bargain too! I had my TC40 for a couple of years before I purchased the JX. You'll be fine as it will handle all but the largest round bales. See you over on the NH boards :)
