L3400 3-point hitch adjustment

OK, so I took the piston out and there is some mild scouring but nothing serious. The cylinder walls are alright. The o-ring and the retainer(push) ring are ok too although they are a bit hard. I took the valve body apart and the o-rings are all hard, so I ordered all new o-rings for the valve body and the piston. Hopefully that will fix my problem. My valve body looks to be completely different than yours there Sean. I just have a simple plunger with 2 internal bypass bobbits and those rings were hard as well. There doesn't seem to be anything inherently wrong anywhere. At least not that's apparent. I'm hoping that when I get all the new o-rings in the problem will be solved. I asked my local dealer for the cost of the new valve out of curiosity sake and $553.00 is what they came back with. (OUCH!!!) I am expecting the parts tomorrow and then we'll see.

Morning y'all. I got my my little tractor all back together now. I ended putting in all new o-rings and seals in the valve body and on piston. Put it all back together ad "voila" works beutifully. Tried the 3 pt up and down a few times with about 300 lbs on it and it's smooth as glass. I was just cleaning up my hands and my WSM showed up...perfect timing?? Oh well, now I've got it for next time. All in all about $65 worth of parts and 5 hrs labour. Well worth it. Thanks for the help and advice Sean.
Abe.

All I have within easy reach in the garage was the logging winch, the rear blade is about 200 feet away. When you're trying to drive standing up with one hand holding the seat switch depressed, 200 feet is like 200 miles.

I have a "before" video with the rear blade already on Youtube, so once I get things reassembled I'll take another "after" video with the blade attached for a better comparison of the difference.

For now...

Thank you so much. I have been fooling with mine for over a year and found this post now it’s good to go. Thank you again

Well, Al, I suspect your results will be similar to what happened with mine after the "fix".
Smooth operation but side effects that may or may not be worse than the original problem.

I haven't tried to re-adjust mine since this thread, have just lived with the problem.

In retrospect, Jeff's homebrew repair would work as long as you don't want full speed of raising the 3-point. By dividing the flow of oil to the valve and dumping a portion of it back to sump, you take the "edge" off the harsh operation, so it feels smoother to some degree.

I read through all 23 pages of this thread, and once again realized how much of a community this site is. There's some good folks here, and there were good people here 9 years ago when we went through this evolution.

I'd be curious to know if the latest generation of L series tractors is still plagued with this problem.

I'm still using mine regularly but I haven't kept up with the latest tractor buzz.
