My old Farmall C has about given up the ghost. I really like the ideal of getting a new tractor. Never had one. I mow 25 acre horse pasture, maintain 1/4 mile of driveway, plow 2 acre garden. Guys will the L3000Dt fill my needs? I want to know from the people who use them. Not the salesman. The price is right, is the machine? I have never owned a FEL, is it worth the added expense?

I don't know much about the L3000, but I can definitely say the FEL is well worth the extra cash. I have found many uses for mine I never imagined when I decided to purchase my tractor.

Bob M,
I don't have mine yet! Dealer is to deliver this week...Wed night now, can't wait much longer!

Anyway it looks like we are looking to do about the same things with our tractor. I am trading up from a 52 Ford 8N to a new L3000DT. I played around like Little Red Ridinghood going from one tractor to another. The Kubota B series was too small, the M series was too big. I thought about the L2600 but for a small difference in money I thought the L3000DT with Ag tires, FEL and a rear 6' finish mower was just right.

Now if the dealer would soon call to say it will be delivered soon I will be happy. As soon as it gets here and I get to play on it some I will post my thoughts on the tractor. I think they will be happy thoughts. I hope anyway!

Good luck with your choice. And yes I think the FEL is well worth the cash. I never had one, always wanted one so I am gettin one. I have already thought of a hundred things I can do with it.

Ive had my L3000 for a little over a year now, and it is a really nice tractor. It came down to the L3000 or the JD790. I went for the Kubota for numerous diferent reasons and im glad I did. I think you would be very happy with it.

You can find a millions different uses for the FEL, its worth the money.

Good Luck.

The L3000 should do more than your Farmall C w/ease,also handle much better plus comfortable ride.

FEL..once you have one you won't want to be w/out a FEL again...worth the extra money!!

Bob,
I love mine. Got tired of trying to do work on an old MF85 of my uncles that ran sometimes and sometimes not. I have the LB400 fel and like it also. My only complaint is that my size 15 canoes tend to get caught up in all the pedals and levers. One day I know I will probably take a header coming off of it.:)I would have gone with 3010HST model if I had the extra cash at the time. The 790 was too tight a fit in the seating area for me.Have a blast. Marty

I have the L3000DT with FEL. Get the FEL you can always take it off if you would ever want to. It adds as much to the tractor as the rear bed does to a pick up.

I do not have a mower, but I'm sure it would handle one just fine. I looked at the JD790 and all the others before settling on the Kubota, all of them fine machines but the Kubota fit my profile better.

I think you will really like it.

Bob M,

I agree with the above posts, the key element is your work environs and application. The FEL is w/o a doubt the best investment as well consider your use. If mostly steady operation w/o a lot of maneuvering the L3000 is a great tractor.

I had an L185DT with 3PTH Hoe which I restored to "new" and was looking for a replacement. Well the way I used it between trees and rocks - no mowing (thats the garden tractors job) I found the manual tranny to be a chore esp when trying to balance and move between trees with 1200LBS in the bucket, plus things get a bit tippy when navigating the ledge and stumps we all deal with in NH. These early verisons had the same loader as the larger units could lift a lot more than the tractor was set for..

In any event, when I was shoppng (20 mos ago) the L3000 was a new version, looked the same mech as the L185 8 Spds, but with PS, a bit longer WB and much bigger engine.
These were all positives, and nearly bought one, until I tried the B21TLB (and my wife said this is the last one), and looked at the sturdy subframe setup and easy removal of the BH having done this many times on the 185 with the 3PTH took an hour or so vs 10 min now.

Other considerations are the center of gravity, e.g stabilty factor, the B21TLBs tend to hug lower but still give nearly 12" clearance and the L3010 about the same with the subframe. All this leads to a lower "pucker factor" when navigating. The TLB's do differ in many ways than the Std B series - tho thats a topic for another forum.

What tipped to scales was the HST, ease of use. stability, and removal of the hoe for other tasks. Cost is a factor, and I consider the L3000 series a "best buy" for performance, power and capabilty but it really depends on your application. Drive them all and decide what works for you. We are all happy in the seat..

Carl

BobM, I have a L3000 I bought about a year ago, I love it , I think it is the perfect size, price, and performance for me. I really enjoy the FEL more than anything, it is so easy to use for anything; big water bucket, ladder, kid hauler, ground scraper, tree mover, pooper scooper, tear concrete out, ect... and it moves dirt too!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
