I just took delivery of my L2800HST after debating for weeks between it and the L3400HST. The dealer is willing to let me trade up if I feel I need the extra HP but he was convinced the L2800 would be plenty as I have a fairly flat 10 acres. I would rather save the $1000 extra $$$$ also. My Question is, can I mow in medium or high gear with a Woods RD72 finish mower? I don't have any tall grass right now due to the time of year --- winter. I don't expect to be able to mow in high gear but at the same time I really don't want to crawl around in low either. Any others out there use their L2800HST for finish mowing? If so, what mower do you use and what gear do you generally use. Any problems? Thanks!

Cant answer your question about finish mowing.....BUT I use a 5' bush hog in Meduim range on my L2800 HST.
With the Hydro Trans I can adjust the speed of travel quickly with the foot pedal. Low range is very slow for cutting in an open field unless it's rough, HIgh range is way to fast for anything but getting there /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I can't comment on the L-2800 but I can tell you that I always finish mow in High with my B-7500, I mow with a Woods RD 6000.
I would suspect that you will be able to mow in high at very least medium.

I finish mow in high, with a 72" Befco, using my L3400 HST on a regular basis. Does not strain the machine at all.
I suspect you will have no issue.
Good Luck

I used a 60" finish mower in med spd (L2800HST) last summer with no problems. Medium speed was fast enough for me due to terrain.

In general, use as low of range as possible. If you can't mow fast enough using full pedal in medium then switching to high is not a problem. If the grass is too long or wet you'll hear the engine or mower belt complaining and then you should slow down.

On most of my property mowing speed is limitd by the bouncing. You don't want your equipment banging around.
