Its come time to change the oil in my L1500. How do you check the oil level? I have a manual but it doesn't say where/how. I imagine it must be a plug in the side of the engine. Which one?

If you're sitting on the seat the dipstick is below and forward of your left foot. It's much lower on the engine than you might expect. I assume you are talking about the engine oil.

Attached is a photo of my L1500, Archie.

Puggy-

Just thought of something else: oil filters are readily available for the L1500 (provided you have the spin-on type).

Fram PH2825 or PH2870A (I get mine at WalMart.)

Napa 1034 or 1342

Thanks Archie - found it! The ring at the end of the dipstick is being used as a cable tie to stop them rubbing the transfer shaft (mine is a 4WD) which threw me off the scent. See pics attached.
I'm in Australia - and can get a full filter set here for the service. It's been a reliable workhorse - wouldn't want to wreck it by neglecting it.
