What is the point of having left and right brakes with a HST? I have a B1550 HST and you cannot opperate the brakes and drive pedal simultaneously.

Some brands have them on the opposite side, mine does. I rarely use them but when I do they're handy. Using the FEL in float clearing snow is one of those times.

Probably no help to you but it is possible on the Grand L series using the Cruise Control lever to control forward motion. The Cruise Control is mechanically linked to the HST treadle. You end up using your left hand to control forward motion and the right foot to steer.

That makes sense, but on the B1550 there is no cruise control. The brakes and the speed control pedal are on the right side.

The manufacture would have had to make new tooling for the different parts and it would have cost more money (for them and us) for it to be functional for us (consumer).
They also probably assume we would not need differential braking on a small machine, I know I used it on my 15hp gear mitsubishi while moving my 663lb disk...the ft. tires were airborne:)

I have used the left or right brake several times when I managed to get myself so close to a tree that I could not have gotten out of the situation unless I removed the FEL or BB.

Maybe I am supposed to ride side-saddle.

I have the same setup on mine (brake and HST pedals on the same side), with no cruise control. When I need to use the brakes independently I use my right foot on the brake pedal and left foot on the HST pedal. It isn't pretty, but works. There are certain situations (close up manuvering) that being able to use just one side's brake is really handy.

Don't forget to lock the pedals back together when you are done, though. Hitting just one side hard if you need to stop quickly can cause pretty serious "unintended consequences".

When I first started shopping and began looking at Kubota, that was the first thing I noticed. What's up with that?? I asked several times on this website?? Ninety percent of the replies said I would never use the individual brakes. With what I do with a tractor, I knew better than that. Anyway, I lucked out when I bought a B2910 which has the lever cruise control to free up the right foot for braking duty. The only glitch with that is the lever will not reverse the tractor, only forward motion. I still don't know what they were thinking??
