Being gentle with the shifter is for sure the solution. One other thing I did while in there was file and sand the rough edges of the little spring loaded plungers that hold the levers in neutral. Somehow, they had become a might roughed up.???? That may have been hanging the center rail and pulling it past the detent ball. Thanks for your interest, and the picture of your old L225. Mine is not a DT. and I don't have a FEL.

Fun stuff all around! As for me, I finally managed to spend a few hours today putting things together. It's starting to look like a tractor again! One thing I noticed that I hadn't before, was the stamp on the right side of the differential casing - it says L225-13157, with 13157 being the sn of my tractor, matching the sn on the tag on the front left of the transmission. So you can tell if your differential belongs to your tranny!

I've put on the left axle. I still need to get in and pick up the oil seal for the right axle, and I'll have that on. Getting closer...

rbargeron, you're mention of being gentle really hit home to me this week. I turned my garden spots again, and was trying to disc before it started raining. I hit a furrow (across it) a might too hard and broke off the spindle from the left front hub! I ordered one from the western KY folks and got it the very next day. It is all back together, and all is well. Another lesson learned. A few guys who looked at the broken piece allows it was already cracked. I'm not so sure.

Been a while - but you guys appear to be having a nice time! I too need a new front hub, one of the corners is broken off, so the wheel has 3 bolts.

Great news - I've got it all back together, finished wiring it up last night - turned the key - and it started right up! I couldn't believe it. I've had it apart since Jan, and while I didn't do anything significant to the engine, nevertheless it's always a nucklebiter.

It turns out I mashed the o-ring on the hydraulic screen, so I didn't put it in gear or try to move it. I just finished tonight putting in the new O-ring, and over the next few days I'll get it done up.

There is some electrical weirdness. I know the alternator is shot, so I'm going to replace it with a 1-wire alternator, and rip out the unecessary Wiring.

Congratulations! IT'S LOOKING LIKE A TRACTOR AGAIN!
I hope the health issues are going as well as the tractor re-build.

It Lives... it Lives

Picked up a new O-ring, installed it, filled it up with tranny fluid and took it for a test drive tonight. It worked Flawlessly! I am so happy. This is really good news.

I still have some odds and ends to do - need to replace the alternator, replace some headlight bulbs - but as far as I'm concerned this project is essentially done. What a success. Thanks a lot to all who chimed in. Once I have the roll bar on, and the FEL reattached I'll upload another photo.
In doing this I've sure learned a lot... By getting the shop manual and poring through it, and reading (a LOT) I could now answer the majority of L-225 questions that get posted (I think). What a great way to learn your way around something, too.

My cancer is also doing well.. er, the treatment is. I'm halfway through my chemo series, and according to the Doctor, I'm "... having a **** of a response!". So that's going good.

So the repair job worked, the Tractor is running (and 30+ years of gunk and crud have been removed) and spring is coming. Things are looking up!
