Kubota’s B & BX Series tractor seat issue is a complete disaster.
This information is long overdue. My business takes me to all of New England. From time to time during the past year and a half I have stopped into numerous Kubota dealerships to express my displeasure over my B7510 seat. Each and every time I was told by the Service/Parts manager that this was the first they had heard of the seat being a problem. I had repeatedly expressed my displeasure to some of the same managers again during the past year 18 months, but still they claim it was the first they had heard of it. It was that they did not want to face up to it. In fact, one customer heard me complain to the manager about the seat and he said to me,”I have complained to that manager about the seat several times and had asked that Kubota do something about their lousy seat.”

Kubota should be completely shamed of their handling of the seat issue. Who is in charge here?, Service… Parts… Sales… Public Relations, know one really knows, each seems to want to blaming the other or the head office.

Why do we have to go to Kubota with one of their bulletins, which we obtained from a kind member through Tractorbynet and have them tell us that they know nothing about it. If this is a reflection of Kubota handling a simple seat issue, let’s hope where not all faced with a real mechanical problem. With the internet and all Kubota’s bulletins they still can’t get it right. It looks like Kubota wants to keep their head in the sand on the seat issue.

A dealer told me that Kubota is making only so many replacement seats and if you’re not high enough on the list you won’t get one. Another dealer said that no seats have been shipped into the US yet. I informed him that some Tractorbynet members have received theirs. He said he did not know of that.

The bottom line is:
• Some will get their seat (maybe)
• Some will not get their seat
• Some will have to pay
• Some will not have to pay
• Some will have to pay more
• Some will have to pay less
• Some can trade their old seat in
• Some can’t trade their old seal in
What a way to run a railroad.

CampMan, thank you for raising these fundamental questions, and thank you for sharing your valuable experience. Dedicated members like you make TBN an exceptional site to call "Home".

Let's hope that Kubota is watching TBN right now, and reading your lips. A professional and responsible course of action by Kubota on this matter is overdue.

Enlighten me please, my B 2910 seat seem to be working OK for me.

Except when I get off and leave it sitting in the HOT sunshine.

That black really gets HOT and feels like it is going to steam my bohunkus.:D

What else should I watch out for?

It makes you appreciate the dealers who participate on this forum and offer their assistance to all of us free of charge. I've given them my business at times over my dealer because I didn't care to get the runaround. Might cost me a bit more but the cost was worth the benefit.

Dealers pick and choose their battles based on profits. I would too I guess if I owned a business. Sad but true.

Much noise, and shouting noted.

This seat issue is new to me. I have a BX 2350 that I bought in NH (chappell milford) last year. Is the 2350 one of the models included in this program? Has anyone dealt with Chappell on this?

To tell you the truth, the seat seems OK to me. I did notice when I bought it that it seems to pitch you foward, but in practice it's actually pretty comfortable. Especially if you wear the seatbelt. Of course, if I can get a more comfy seat for $20 or $30 I'll take it.

Thanks

I got my BX2350 about a week ago and when the dealer brought it to the house he told me that he would have me a new seat by the middle of next month and he would come out and install it so I could see if I like it better and I did not no any thing about the new seat .Also he told me there would be no charge. I really think it's the dealer that you deal with. I started looking at the Blue tractors and thats why I went with the Kubota. After going to two blue dealers I new I did not want to buy from them. I liked the tractor but it was like pulling teeth getting any info. I'm not knocking the blue tractors I just got lucky finding a very good Kubota dealer.

50 hr maint. & checkup performed Thursday, July 12 on BX2350

Initially called dealer (Chappell Tractor, Milford NH) re: seat replacement mid-June. Service Mgr. unaware of seat issues.

Learned new seats were delivered to dealer during first week of July and would be installed during 50 hr service call.

$49.95 for the new seat (according to the Service Manager).

The new seat is decidedly more comfortable than original seat-less forward tilt-more cheek room left and right although the new seat is not as hefty as original.

Intersting. I was just in there getting stuff to do the 50 hour service myself. I also brought in my ill-fitting battery cover hoping to get a new one under warranty. They were happy to order a new cover, but said nothing about the seat issue.

What exactly is the problem with the seat? People just find it uncomfortable in some way? I definitely thought it looked funky when I got the tractor, but in use I don't have any complaints. For $50 I think I'll pass.

Just out of curiousity, what do they charge for the 50 hour service. They sold me all the fluids and filters for $125.

Studway:

50 hr service call on BX2350 (Tuesdayday, 7/10/07-not Thursday, 7/12/07 as indicated earlier). Bear in mind cost of new seat and a rear light assembly are included:

Eng. Oil Filter- 8.25
Hyd. Oil Filter- 9.40
A/Filter, Outr-14.86
Fuel Filter(2)- 9.40
Light Assy- 87.21
BX Seat- 49.95
Freight 5.00
S/TOTAL: 184.07

In addition:

Service call to my home (42 mile R/T): 120.00 (labor to install light incl.)
1 gal. 15-40 engine oil-14.60
4.5 gal. Super UDT-78.75
3 hours labor-234.00
4% charge on labor for shop supplies, disposal, etc. 9.36

GRAND TOTAL: $640.78

Rather steep in my uninformed opinion...however, in complete candor the Tech experienced considerable difficulty installing the rear light...several problems with live wires that should have been neutral. Correcting that took the better part of 2 hours of back and forth via Nextel.

Seat charge was disappointing based on experiences from others on TBN. Nevertheless, the absence of forward tilt and the wider seat are more comfortable-but I agree with you-not worth the $49.95 cost.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATION-The landfill in my town charges $10.00 per gal. to dispose of waste oil/petroleum products-and the landfill only accepts waste oil on 1 Saturday in April and 1 during October PLUS the annual access fee is 35.00. Avoiding those landfill charges tended to offset (in part) the total cost.

WOW that is expensive. I just did my 50 hr a few weeks ago myself on my B7800. I don't think it cost me more than 100$ for all the parts/fluids. Dealer wants 6x as much??? and that is American coin to boot!!!

Taiser:

In all fairness to the dealer-when I purchased the BX2350 this past October I was made aware the 50 hr service typically ran in the $300-$350 range. So, taking that estimate as a base figure-add in the $120.00 charge for a "field visit," $49.95 for the seat (not part of the 50 hr. service) and $87.00 for the rear light assembly and install (again, not part of the 50 hr. service) and I believe it is within the quoted ballpark-although, admittedly, a ballpark the size of Yankee Stadium.

Similarly, the rear light assembly and labor appears about right as it compares with info contained on previous threads on TBN, i.e. +/- $10.00.

The $49.95 for the seat is annoying, however, given the experience of others with their dealers. This will be discussed with my dealer.

Now I feel GREAT about doing the service myself. I though I was saving about $200, turns out it was more like $300! I would have needed to pay for them to come out too, but I'm right in Milford. I think they quoted me $60 for coming here.

Deerfield, did they torque every bolt on your tractor? When I was in there picking up the fluids and filters a tech walked by and informed me that if I was going to do the 50 hour service myself I need to re-torque every bolt on the tractor. I did the wheel bolts, as the manual recommends, and did a quick check of all the others I could get to to make sure none had come loose.
