Kubota L4240, Ford 1210
Latin for multiple orange tractors? :) Santa brought us a clean 4240 for Christmas. So for a period of time the L3200 and L4240 will both be here. The L4240 needs rear work lights and something more than the bucket for snow removal. Although I'm anxious to start using the 4240, I'll follow my own advice and add a wear edge to the bucket before using it on blacktop. The 3200 will go up for sale when the 4240 has some of these things completed.

After much reading and thought, I'd like to try a front blade on an SSQA plate similar to the one that Paul Short built. The blower on the 3200 is a lot of fun and easy to use on driveways. It should be a foot or so wider for the 4240 and just adding wings to funnel snow into the same auger and fan doesn't seem like a good idea. The largest snow clearing areas I get into are the parking lots at our church, and many posters seem happy with plows for that application.

The search that led to this tractor included several brands of factory-cabbed tractors in the 38 to 40 HP range so there would be a couple horses to run the A/C and a few more for a wider finish mower. Lots of time on Craigslist and Tractorhouse. Many hours of driving to see tractors within a 2 hour drive, and both new and used. This one was just a little bit larger than that, with 10 HP more than the 3200.

The 4240 is about 10 years old with 977 hours on it. Whatever it was used for apparently involved staying indoors and away from bushes, trees etc. Everything looks new. I was able to confirm through a local dealer that the hydro pump was replaced at 79 hours and there were no records of trouble in the next 900 hours. Wifey asked what's better about the "new" tractor. I told her it was much more comfortable and user-friendly. She then asked if the difference between the two tractors was like the difference between the Ford truck and the Tahoe. I told her no. It was more like the difference between our first Jeep (40's military) and the Tahoe. She then asked why I didn't get something like the 4240 before. Any wonder we recently celebrated 48 years of marriage? Also, a shout out to her brother who told her "Chim should have a tractor with an A/C because he spends a lot of time in it".

Second picture is a plow that will be the starting point for the first real project. It's been sitting in a corner of one of the warehouses at work. It came with a used truck we bought for a foreman about 4 years ago. Since we don't need it there I was able to get an unbelievable deal on it.

Now you got me a little envious with your recent upgrade. :D Shame on you!

Congrats. With less that 1000 hours, why did they even have a tractor?

Mind telling around what you paid for it?

Getting ready to dump mine because I hate the thing.

You've had a unique number of problems with yours. all documented again and again and again and again and again on these pages in at least two long threads and countless snarky posts like this one. Not to mention adding a shade tree turbo.

Doubt you'll ever be able to sell it: who wants your problems?

Well, there is a Sucker born every day, so he might luck out and find one that hasn’t read all his posts.

Other than a front axle seal that went bad the actual tractor has been reliable AFTER all of the initial problems were addressed by myself. Just did the 400 hour service and almost puked at the Kubota overpriced filters when I opened the box and saw China written on them.

I simply hate the machine, everything performance-wise is lackluster including the horrible R4 tires in the snow, the paint has faded badly too. My poor choice of snowblower that only shoots snow about 30 feet wide open.

I'll never buy another new Kubota product and their parts prices are too high anyway.

Shade tree turbo by the way has been flawless because of my attention to detail.

Anyway the whole Kubota purchase made me sick to my stomach and will never happen again. Glad I finally got it paid off.

Screw Kubota, never again!

Yes, I'm fairly new here and only heard this same message 40 or 50 times.

Surely you could have sold it if you really wanted to, instead of polluting this fine mans thread about his two great Kubota tractors.

Haaaa.....

Another thin skinned Kubota owner and I love it, the green camp can take some ribbing because their junk is always broken but the G-man gets upset when someone tells him his machine is substandard; and hey you must have a sore butt too after your cheap Kubota seat bangs on the metal deck with no isolation to soften the blow...I don't blame you one bit for being upset.

It's all good whatever brand you side with but if you can't take the heat get away from the :fiery: fire.

Regards and best of luck with your purchase Mr. chim, Fred

Nice try.

IIRC you were already complaining about it the day I registered here.

Bet two years from now you are still polluting these threads with your complaints: and still own the tractor. I think you must like the notaristy or something. Good luck with sale.

Getting back to the OP, that's a nice looking tractor that Santa brought you. Have fun with it.
