Have you measured the voltage with the engine running,with a voltmeter?
If your charging system is not functioning,the voltage will be battery voltage-about 12.5 volts DC.
A properly operating charging system will produce about 14 volts.
If you are looking at your voltmeter on the dash(if you have one),or in your hand when starting the engine,and you don't see the voltage increase to 14 volts or so,you have a bad alternator or something else wrong,requiring further testing.

If the battery light stays on after starting the engine it usually indicates the alternator output does not exceed the battery voltage - your battery is not charging. This can be as simple as dirty battery terminals but it can also indicate worn brushes, a bad diode, a voltage regulator failure, or even a slipping fan belt. You do have a bit of testing to do.
Thank you , with engine running using hand volt meter only getting 12.6 so will pull the alternator
