Kubota RTV400ci

the RTV's look messy under the bed, but they are very easy for shops with the right tooks to work on. For the most part, the engine and trans assy can be slid out of the machine very quicky with the right service jigs. Makes anything involved much easier to do.[/QUOTE]

Hopefully that would be a very rare event.

very easy for shops with the right tools to work on.

Thanks. I was kind of hoping this thing was simple enough for me to work on, like my ATV, but perhaps not. This reminds me of a typical new vehicle where all of us look under the hood and just scratch our heads. So I'll change the oil, keep it lubed, and take it in to the dealer every two or three years I guess.

Two more tidbits. You must come to a complete stop before changing into or out of gear, from high to low. I rushed it just a little bit and boy did it grind nicely. No hydro sound here, this was unhappy metal. Won't do that again.

CVT when floored does allow the engine to rev up, as expected, but it doesn't sound like a city bus. Actually it doesn't sound all that good, from a motorhead's perspective, typical Subaru agricultural sound, but I'm sure this is a seriously high quality motor. And so new you can't find info anywhere, which worries me a bit. I ordered an entire new set of filters for the unit immediately, will be interesting to see when they come in.

I would sure like to find a simple front brush guard that fits in the front receiver tube. I can always order the oem one, but am looking for something a little smaller, just for holding small brush down before I run over it, and to keep the hood from getting scratched.

I'm still hunting info on this engine. Subaru makes a nice EFI twin, too bad that wasn't an option here, but that would probably encroach on the 500's market.

If Messicks or others could post some internal info on this engine, that would be super. thanks Drew

thanks. I'm hoping the ECU is already in use somewhere and is very reliable.
And I also trust Subaru engineering.

The more seat time I have on it, the more I am satisfied, but the seat is truly uncomfortable for a guy with a bad back, but that is correctable with some foam cushioning. But I sure would have paid more for a seat upgrade...something that wasn't so hard and gripped me better. The seat belt helps. The EFI engine really does start remarkably well. Boy would I like my chainsaw to start like this:thumbsup:

Everything Daugen says is spot on! The quality and detail of the machine is great. I purchased the RTV400 with ATV tires a couple of weeks ago. I am using it to go up and down a 30% gravel and dirt grade to the riverfront I am developing on the back of my property. It easily makes the climb loaded, that my two wheel drive tractor can't make empty unless it has chains on. I have about 6 hours on it so far and it has exceeded my expectations for power and climbing ability.

Long time reader, 1st time post. Finally purchased my RTV400. What a tough decision to make with all types of available manufactures, models to choose from. We are happy with our decision, love it, & enjoying the ride. This RTV is joining my Kubota BX24 for light duty chore.

Add on from dealer:
Plastic top canopy.
FRONT GRILLE GUARD.
1 TRAILER HITCH in rear.
CARGO BOX MAT KIT.
REAR CARGO SCREEN.

Last weekend just installed the windshield purchased from Rays. Looks & drive great.
Will post photos later.

Thanks for this forum that has helped & educated me on my selection.

Congrats.

How is the vibration on your 400ci?

And how much did they nick you for the bed mat? I need one for my 500.

You mentioned power steering in the other thread. The specs simply say rack and pinion, a type of steering that can be either manual of power assisted. Can you post a picture of your steering unit? I'd like to see if it is any different than that on my RTV500.

Misfire

Bed mat from dealer is a little less than $100.

The vibration is OK with me. I didn't notice that much.
I tried the JD XUV550 & RTV400 in the dealer shop. RTV400 has less vibrate than XUV550. It could be a bad XUV550 setup from the shop.

Picture of steering unit? Is this inside of the tool box trunk? I will take picture when I get in my ranch later.
