Kubota load sensing pump system

Kubota lists their pumps as load sensing. Is this a piston pump with an adjustable swash plate?

Typically yes load sense is a variable volume piston pump.

Yes usually a axial piston pump with a swash plate that is constantly being adjusted to meet flow and pressure requirements. On a lot of the compact excavators it will have two outlets and some manufacturers count it as 2 pumps even though its just one rotating group of pistons in one cylinder. Then they piggy back a gear pump to it and call it a three pump system or a 4 pump system if there also counting the little pilot pump.

So the swash plate is moved back and forth by something monitoring flow or pressure, or both.

A load sense pump has a pilot line on the control that is used to sense pressure Down stream of a control valve . The pump produces flow to keep a constant pressure drop across this valve. If only one function on the valve is in operation it provides a constant flow independent of load changes. This provides a more consistent movement speed of functions.
