On Friday, my new L3430 arrived! Over the weekend I put 12 hours cutting my pasture. The machine worked great. I am glad I went with the HST. Late Saturday evening, I decided to attached the BH90 hoe. First time took about 45 min to remove the 3point and make minor boom adjustments to place the mounting pins into the subframe mount. I hope the process is quicker in the future. I dug my first hole (just playing around) Gee Whiz, the bucket sunk into the ground as if it were warm butter.

Steven, welcome to TBN and congrats on a great looking tractor and backhoe! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When posting several pictures, it's best to post the first picture then reply to your own message instead of making separate posts for each picture. This keeps them all in the same thread as well as all comments.

Here are your two pictures.

Nice setup SP! That BH looks like one trick setup! Might have to add one of those to the "wish list" for down the road. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What were you mowing with, what were the conditions and
.......in twelve hours of mowing, how much did you do?.......
Considering the 3430 vs 3830.....

I was mowing the pasture with a 60" Landpride brush cutter. The pasture grass was 2 1/2' tall. I was able to mow at least 9-10 acres. My finish lawn is about 3 acres, I mow that with a 21hp Kubota lawnmower. That lawn takes only 2 1/2 hours with the rider. I am considering a heavy duty rear finisher for the tractor to even out the cut due to the brush cutter works better on black berries etc....

Thanks, I am enjoying it! It is kind of a pain to take on and off due to the tractor and hoe have to be aligned just right to make the locking pins slide in. Lots of minor adjustments with boom and stabilizers to make it all happen.

The tractor would lug down on some of the thick stuff. You may want to check with RaT who has a 3830. I think he is really happy with it. I am very happy with the 3430, it is perfect for what I use it for. The 3830 is a little taller and of course more powerful. I went pretty slow when cutting the pasture-mainly because I was getting the feel for the tractor but also, I got a little skittish when the tractor was on uneven ground. I would have felt really bad if I tipped it over on the first weekend! Good luck on your choice

My 3830 w/ bb 72 cutter are getting delivered friday afternoon /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif....per 'lugging down' what are you running for rpm's while cutting in 'break in' mode?......There are various posts speaking to early impressions with the 3130 coming up short in some situations.....lack of ability to climb gentle inclines..etc......felt the same phenomenom on my test drive of one.....I wonder if it is just duto everyone running lower rpm/s trying to break in the machines.......Sounds like you got alot done with grass that tall......Friday night and Saturday predicted to be cloudy with no rain here.....wonder how long I will glue myself to the seat.....

As for "lugging down" my MX5000 with 50hp and a Rhino SE6 "lugged down in the middle of a pasture in 2' Bahia grass (running a 2000 rpm for break in). Grass was real thick though so it just depends on what you are mowing you can lug just about anything down. Last week I mowed 1-2" saplings at 2500 rpm never missed a beat. Diesel make their power and torque at higher rpms so you will probably see a difference once you get it up to "pto speed".

I'm not sure why a few posters are having issues with the L3130's power. But I do know that I've learned a couple of things while running mine over the last few weekends.

First, I'm still new to tractors and I'm apt to do things incorrectly. Case in point - PTO speed too low to cut causes the tractor to stall out in thick grass. Well Duh!

Second, HST pedal is NOT a gas pedal. Well Duh!

Third, deck too low on the rotary cutter causes tractor to stall when the blades hit dirt. Well Duh!

Fourth, deck too low on the rotary cutter causes tractor to leave gouge marks on pasture (lucky I'm not mowing the lawn or the CFO would have had my head). Well Duh!

Fifth, the tractor is not designed to be driven up hills in high gear - off road or on (get an ATV if you want to jump hills). Well Duh!

Last but not least - the Grand L Series tractors are well built and priced competitively. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif And I'm loving mine every time I use it (especially when I figure out what I'm doing wrong).

I kept the rpms at about 2500-2600 while mowing. I felt it would be better to keep the pto at 540+/- . I felt the lower rpm during break in with that kind of load would be harder on the break-in than just running it at normal speed. When I would hear the engine rpm go down due to load, I would slow the tractor and sometimes raise the pto to take the load off the mower...Just being gentle while still new. Congrates on your new tractor by the way! You will be happy with the L3830. What implements and such did you add?

I go pretty slow with my tractor (3430). I have had no problems going up inclines even while mowing heavy grass. I would be too scared to go any faster anyway! Hell, if the wind blows sideways, I grab ahold of the seat with my rearend as it seems to attach itself quite readily to the tractor.

After comming off much larger tractors and stepping down to a L4330, I'm still amazed how stable it is. Love the 4wd. It really makes a differance. Almost like my 4wd 310 JD hoe.

Have the woods BB72 coming with the machine...was going to order a woods boxblade as well (have gb60 now....indestructable).....Per posts on this board will be buying Midwest blades...plan on Box Blade/Rear blade/ and rake to get ahold of some rocky areas here.......got a quote for Corriher for implements...their deals make it a no-brainer

Sixth, While bushhogging at full rpm/s cruising along and
trying to mow rocks tends to break blades, well duh....

I like to mow with this old Case tractor because of stability,
4cyl gas engine...broke 1 blade in 4 years.........one day w/ my ford 1910 winding it up to cover some ground broke
2 sets of blades in a day.......The HST will help me to just stop and maneuver when I encounter a rock in the field.....the Box Blade and L3830 will be just the ticket to remove rock from field.....Most of what I have is clear pasture but I have a few rocky areas that need some work....I am tryying to decide which rear blade to buy...7 or 8'....I will buy the BB30-72 Box blade but not sure if I want 22 or 40 series rear blade.....most blade work will be for snow removal.....I am done bathing in 'blown' snow...getting rid of the blower.....
