Kubota L3301 vs L3901 - Is it just ECU tuning?

Very fair point. The market for ECUs for tractors under warranty is probably a bit weak. I probably would just wait a few years until my full warranty is expired and I had more cash and buy the new ECU and drop it in. Just like that...20% more tractor. So this means I could buy the higher end tractor whenever I want.

Does anyone know if anything about ECU programming on these units that would prevent a simple drop-in?
Not sure about tractors but I do GM vehicle PCM/ECU tuning and there should be no difference.
You could probably flash a 3301 with a 3901 tune and it work, the PCM/ECU should have the same ERAM capacity.
I wouldn’t think the injectors are larger in the 3901, in vehicles the injector flow rate can be programmed up to a point.
Hope this helps.

As I stated I would be interested if someone has a ecm they want to sell

What is the engine rpm for each model? The Massey Ferguson I have is 1734e, 34hp, the next one up is 1739e, 39hp. The engine rpm for PTO on the 1739e is considerably higher than the 1734e. The engine specs other than hp are identical, as is the rest of the tractor. The only difference is the gear ratio for the pto.

The L3200 & L3800 in the previous mechanical injection generation 7 odd years ago had different displacement engines. I believe PTO speed was slightly different RPMs. So presumably slightly different gears in the tranny.

On the Grand Ls to go up from the L4060 to the L4760 to L6060 they slap on a turbo & intercooler on. Same displacement. I'd assume bigger radiators as my L4060 runs out of cooling at max load for hours on really hot days.

Our dealer sells almost no 3301 models it’s just a price point model no other reason for it
I had the L3301 and should have bought the L3901 at the time. I think the L3301 exists so Kubota can charge more for the L3901 which is the same tractor as the L3301 but with different tuning.
Just do away with the L3301 and lower the price of the L3901.

Or, simply install a Turbo on an L2501. ;)
