Hooked up my new finish mower (60" cub cadet) today. Went into town to buy a qt of gear oil and came back. The tractor wouldn't start. Only clicks. Checked battery, its fine. The tractor only has 54 hrs on it. Would the starter/solenoid be the next suspect? Does the clutch have a switch that keeps the tractor from starting if its not depressed? Could that be a suspect? In the meantime, the grass continues to grow.

YES! At least my L3940 HST does. It's so you can't have your foot on the HST pedal, crank it & haul arse without really intending to!

On my fancy pants Grand L, if you try to start it without the clutch in, the digital display says CLUTCH ... Haha, true story!

If it is clicking the safety interlocks are probably working the solenoid is not getting enough power, try charging the battery. There is a switch on the Clutch pedal.

Make sure the PTO is off.

Yes you have to have the clutch pedal pushed down.

Make sure HST pedal is centered(sometimes you have to be in the seat and rock it back and forth with the key on to catch this).

The safety switches are a pain sometimes.
