I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the kubota engine blocks are made of. I have been told that new kubota tractor engines are made of aluminum I am just curious.

I have not seen an aluminum Kubota block. I'm pretty sure somebody was jerking your chain. To the best of my knowledge they are all cast iron.

All of the old ones are cast iron. Aluminum blocks would be more expensive than cast.

The only aluminum Kubota engine blocks I've seen are the gasoline RTV engines and the lawnmower engines like found on the ZG series.

Whats the value of an aluminum block in a tractor? In a car the fact they are lighter is a big plus, pretty much a negative in a tractor. Better thermal properties, but not by a huge margin over cast iron. Iron is going to be stronger, more durable & less likely to melt if it overheats badly. Not to mention iron is WAY vheaper than aluminum.

I agree that having an aluminum block in a tractor would be a negative and so does the person who told me they were aluminum. He said he wouldn't but a kubota because they have aluminum blocks. But I can not find anywhere where it states what the blocks are made of to prove him wrong.

Get him a MAGNET. Then he can check for himself....

These "cow magnets" (see link below) offer the additional advantage of allowing "hands-free storage," for the person alleging Kubota blocks are aluminum.

PRO-TIP: When not in use and storing the cow magnet, he should REVERSE the magnet's normal (bovine-specific) insertion instructions.... (Then he will always know where it is, and he can continue to check out his aluminum block theory wherever he rambles). :laughing:

I agree that having an aluminum block in a tractor would be a negative and so does the person who told me they were aluminum.

While aluminum is lighter in weight . . Its ability to absorb heat stress (with typical cylinder sleeves ) should be better than cast iron. Cast iron like concrete is hard but also like concrete . . It is more brittle.

In a diesel I'd think cast iron remains a good choice . . But technically as a pattern of rpms climbing it becomes a different story. Just my 2 cents.
