I have a BX23 and the 3-point lowering speed knob will not turn. Have any of you had this problem? It is the control below the seat, looking at the seat it is the control on the left. I could use some help on this. Thank you for any advice on this.

On my BX2660 the one on the left of the tractor is the height adjustment for the mower and will only turn when the deck is clear up. The speed adjustment is in the center.

If it is the knob labeled with....top / 1 / 2 etc. that is the height adjustment knob then you need to raise your 3pht all the way up to turn it if you try to force it while in the down position you will do damage.

If it is the 3PH lowering speed knob, the hydraulic pressure must be off of the 3PH for the knob to be turned. Lower the hitch all the way and see if it can be moved at all. Even then, it can be a little tight.

If that doesn't do it then some penetrating oil on the shaft to run down into the threads might work. "teg" may have the best solution if it has never been moved before or is frozen.

As far as the mowing deck raise/lower - others know more.

Thanks for the reply. Yes if you are seated on the seat the one on the left is the cutting control height adjustment. I was looking at the seat and it is to the left of that one. It is the 3-pt hitch lowering speed adjustment.

Chugbug also referred to the cutting height control dial. I know which one that is and do not have a midpoint cutting deck. I have never used either of these because the backhoe has always been on.

I did spray some WD-40 in the shaft as suggested by teg and tried to loosen it with pliers but it is not moving. Gwdixon mentioned that the 3pt should be lowered all the way to relieve the hydraulic pressure. I have not tried that yet, but will remove the backhoe and give that a try. Hopefully that will work.

I appreciate all the advice and will try those things. Any others that may have a solution I appreciate your help.

Thank you.

You may have to try a better penetrating oil than WD-40.. maybe PB blaster or "knock-er-loose" or Kroil or something else. and let it set for a day or 2 and re-apply. I had to wind up taking a pair of channel locks to mine (carefully). Don't break it off. I lube it once in a while with a shot of Fluid-Film. Works very easy now.

Thanks James. I will try that and hope this loosens it up.

The one on the BX2230 did it once. Sprayed with PB Blaster tapped with hammer and used locking pliers to loosen up. Needs some grease arount base of shaft to keep water out and turning it every week helps keep it from freezing up again.

I finally got it loose. I lubricated it well and it now works. It was locked in the closed position. It is working freely now.

Now I have another problem. The 3pt hitch has never been used and it goes up and down fine but it will not stay in a set position. It continues to fall down no matter where you put the lever.
Maybe the relief valve is staying open. I guess I will have to post another question.

Thanks to all of you that responded. All of your suggestions helped and I finally got it free. I won't let that happen again.
