Kubota B7800 vs B2910

Mike, your thinking tracks mine almost exactly. I like the capacity of the 7800, given the modest extra $$ over the 7610/2410, find the seat and wheel comfortable, wouldn't be changing implements all the time, etc. Still looking at Case/Farmall for pricepoint comparison vs. Kubota, though. I'm limiting myself to the Case/Farmall line or Kubota right now. I like the local dealerships (both are Kubota and Case) and the nearest NH dealer that I like is far enough to be a pain.

One difference between the B7800 and B2910 not mentioned in this thread is the B7800's lack of a full control 3 point hitch. The 7800 has a 'quarter inching valve', which, I guess is better than nothing, but still not nearly as convenient as a conventional full control 3ph.
I have a B7800, and am very satisfied. The seat, cruise, and 3ph links work fine for me. I do miss the full control 3ph, but would not be willing to fork out an extra $1500 for this feature. By the way, when I bought my tractor, I was not aware of the 3ph valve differences. My dealer forgot to mention this, not his fault though, I'm a big boy and should have researched more thoroughly. I am sure you will be pleased with whichever machine you choose.

Seems that different people have different impressions of the quarter inching valve vs. PC. I'm waiting for a break in the weather to visit the local dealer and compare with a box. Of the two salesmen I've been talking to, one says the QI valve matches the way he uses a tractor well - that he always ends up adjusting a bit anyway, more or less constantly. The other said it was: a) matter of preference, and b) depends on the implement (you might be using gauge wheels on a rake or blade, for instance, in which case it just doesn't matter).

my wife and i just bought a 10 acre farm for our horses and i am going to look at kubotas tomorrow. I am new to tractors so can someone tell me what full control 3ph implies and contrast that to the quarter inching valve, thanks

The position control style is the hitch system that has been around since Henry Ford an the quarter inching valve is new to the industry. The position control has graduations that give you an idea of where you are as far as the height of your hitch. The quarter inching valve allows you to fix a height and adjust in consistent distance with out the chance of error from hitting a bump and making an improper adjustment. It is closest thing to having draft control there is with out it!

I'm not sure how the quarter inching valve actually works as I have not tried one. From Art's description, I take it that the 3PH will either move in fixed small steps, or through its entire range, depending on how much you push the control lever.

Position control for me has only been an advantage with my brush hog. Generally it is desirable to have the front a little lower than the back. [granted there may be times to have the front higher than the back, if you want to grind things up well].

On a flat surface I can set the height of the front of the rotary cutter with respect to the back, by positioning the 3PH arms where I need to. Then I set the stop on the fender slot, so the lever cannot be moved further in the lower direction.

After doing this, I can lift the cutter for transport and when I lower it I KNOW the front is where it I want it. If I need to raise it for whatever reason...when I lower it again, it is right back where it should be.

I guess chains hooked to the front of the cutter and somewhere on the back of the tractor are used for the same purpose...

Other than this one use, I think the quarter-inching valve would work as well for me as the position control does...

When I was at the dealer the other day picking up a new light bulb I noticed that the MSRP for the L3130 HST was LESS than the B2910 HST. If this is correct then the L3130 is a bargain.

Can anyone confirm this? Art?

You are correct.
L3130HST-F, std Ag tires - $16,670.00
B2910HST-F, std Ag tires - $16,780.00
The B2910HST-F is priced with the optional folding ROPS.

I've used both the 1/4 inching the the position control 3ph and there really isn't that much difference. Using my box scraper, I prefer the 1/4" 3ph because if I loose traction I can bump the box blade up in 1/4" increments until I get traction as opposed to trying to raise the position control slowly while bouncing and spinning. For the 7800 price, It is tough to beat. We've had a total of 24 inches of slow in the past week and it cleaned my driveway as well as two neighbors and the church lot. I need to get the chains put on though. The wet slushy mess we had yesterday was giving the R-4's a fit.
