John Deere 5103 w/ 512 LDR
What is the Kubota equivalent to a John Deere 50 HP 5103?

I can get a 5103, FEL, medium duty 6' shredder, and medium duty 6' box blade for under $20k. What could I get from Kubota?

The L5030 would be the horsepower equivalent tractor. If you can get a 50 HP John Deere tractor with all the accessories stated for under $20K then buy it. There's no need to spend more time looking here.

I've checked out the 5030s. They are awesome machines, but they are a much more advanced tractor than the collar shift, 2WD JD5103. I was just wondering if Kubota made an "old school" ag tractor without all of the bells and whistles. I'd prefer top of the line, but my wallet says different.

Take a look at a M4800 or MX 5000. These will be in the same ballpark. Plus right now there is 0% financing from Kubota.

The MX 5000 will be the closest comparison. I think the loader is a little beefer than the John Deere and it has a quick dettach bucket on it. It is a little more expensive though. When I was shopping I got a quote for an even $21,000 on the MX 5000 with the LA 853 loader with quick dettach bucket. You're looking at another $1,500 - $2,000 depending on brand for a 6' brush hog and 6' box blade.

One thing I was just assuming is that the JD is a 4wd. You can knock about $3,500 - $4,000 off the prices I just mentioned if you are talking about a 2wd tractor.

The L4400 is a nice tractor close to the same HP range (it has 45 gross, 37.5 PTO). Here's a recent thread about the L4400. The buyer got a quote for the 2WD tractor with FEL and brush hog for $16,500.

I personally do not think that Kubota has a comparable tractor to this JD class. It is your return to the basic AG class tractor, no bells and whistles. It appears to be well built, looks good on paper for power ratios to size, and of course is backed by the John Deere brand.

Now if you move up a in the class numbers say 52xx, then you could start pricing in the new M's or the 5030 series. But for what your offered, tractor and attachments, I'd say no match in the orange class for that price and package.

I did check and the 5103 is strictly a 2wd tractor, it is not available in 4wd.

The MX5000 in 2wd would price out very comparable to the 5103, maybe even a little less. My local dealer lists a MX5000 in 2wd for $13,500 without a loader.

I've been looking at the 5103 vs. M4800 vs. MX5000 all in 2WD. Most siginificant differences I see are weight, FEL capacity, and 3pt lift capacity. The MX5000 is around 1,200 pounds lighter than a 5103, and the M4800 is about 700 pounds lighter than the 5103. This may make a difference if you ever do some heavy ground engaging work, and more weight may increase stability when doing FEL work. FEL capacity on MX5000 FEL is quite a bit less than 5103 and M4800. In my opinion the M4800 is closer to the 5103 in terms of specs but still a little short. Based on price quotes I'm getting (with FEL) the MX5000 is lowest, then 5103 and then M4800.

I'm leaning toward 5103.

I recently bought a M4800. Started out looking at the 5103 but after driving and trying to shift it I decided to move up to the 5105. Then I decided to look at the Kubotas and the M4800 seemed like the best bang for the $. The prices I got were 5103 $12750 ,5105 $15750 ,and M4800 $14,400. All are 2wd. I could have got the M4800 a little cheaper but deciced to go with a local dealer. The MX5000 is a nice tractor but was a little small for my needs. One thing to look at on the 5103 is the loader the 2 dealers I went to told me the loader bolts to the frame and can not be gotten in a Q/A. However a guy at work just bought one and the same dealer told him the Q/A is availible. the M4800 is a little light and needs some wieght added I plan to have my tires filled next week for extra wieght. I think the shuttle on the M4800 is the easiest to use also. I got the tractor, 6' bushog ,6' boxblade and a 20' trailer for under 18,000.

You got an M4800, FEL, 6' shredder, 6' box blade, and 20 trailer for $18000? Sounds like a deal. Especially since Kubota financing is friendlier. What's the HP and PTO HP of the 4800?

Dang!

Please tell more. Welcome to TBN and do the profile picture thing.

You still shopping Chip? I am following your specs and selections. I am in hold mode until the new M's arrive. But the 5103 up the road, calls me....

I did not get a FEL with the tractor. My dealer priced one at $4800 and I'm still trying to decide if I really need one.
The M4800 is 48 or 50 hp engine hp and 43 pto hp. I got the bushhog squeeler 6' and a 6' KK boxblade. The trailer is a 20' Buck Dandy with 2 3500# axles and pulls great. I've built a top for the tractor and added a toolbox so I might be at 18k now. I would recomend a 7' foot boxblade for this tractor the 6' is a little small. The M4800 isn't as fancy as the M4900 but I didn't need all the extras. The biggest selling point for me between the 5103,5105, and the M4800 was the ease if shifting and shuttling the M4800. I did look at a 5040 last week and they are nice. They are set up competely dif. than the old M series. Dealer priced it at $26,500 with 4wd and a FEL. If I had known the new tractors were coming out I'd have waited but would have probably made the same choice and gotten the M4800.

Kubota came out with the MX5000SU to compete with the 5103 JD. It can get a little confusing because currently Kubota offers the MX5000SU in 2wd and the MX5000 in 2wd and the MX5000DT in 4wd. The 5103 is build in a third worl country (India) and does not have the 3 year power train warranty that hte MX5000SU has. So you are comparing a Japanese built tractor against the 5103.

/ Kubota 50 HP Deal #16
It was kind of funny when the Deere guy ask me what other tractors I'd looked at and I told him a kubota. He went in to the whole spill about why I shouldn't buy a japanese tractor. But when I asked about the 5103 being made in India he started in about how it's every bit as good as an American Tractor. I buy American when I can but I don't think there's a true basic tractor package made in the U.S.A.. They say the 5105 is made in the U.S. but there's just to many simularities between it and the 5103 to make me believe it's 100% U.S. built.

The story we get is that thier 05 series is just like our TC series. The 05 engine, transmission, and rear axle is built elsewhere and then shipped to GA. and then assembled and the hood and fenders and the rest of the tractor is made thier to technically qualify it as made in USA. Our TC series engine, rear axle and transmission from Japan and go into GA and the rest of it is made and assembled again to technically qualify for the made in the USA sticker.

Jason,

While I've got your ear...my local Kubota dealer quoted me for a 4330 and a 4400. The quotes were fair, but he told me that Kubota would not finance over 60 months on an "ag exempt" purchase. He said I had to pay sales tax if I wanted to finance for 84 months. Is that a Kubota deal or a dealer deal?

/ Kubota 50 HP Deal #19
Only the M series will Kubota go out to 84 months on. The L series Kubota will go out to 72 months on all the time. Kubota has a blurb as follows: "**Terms up to 72 months are available for all new Kubota B, BX, & L Series Models purchased for consumer (personal/household) use only, and all M Series Models, CE and TLB's****. " So if on the credit application you filled out all the stuff for the agricultural use then Kubota will only go 60 months because they think you are a full time farmer. The way I understand is as long as you are not a full time farmer just don't fill in the info on the AG stuff so the contract type would be consumer instead of Ag and the dealer still does not have to charge you sales tax as long as you qualify for it in your county. Hopefully this makes some sense.
