kubota 3710 float detent reassembly???
had a problem with float sticking badly, found out about the water/rust problem in the cap so i removed the cap sure enough everything in there was rusty/sticky so i cleaned the ball beaarings and the detent sleeve. when i reassembled , now it will not stay in float at all, so ordered the correct detent kit from kubota thinking maybe the parts were worn, reassembled again , same result, no detent, im pretty sure i assembled correctly i have the parts diagram looks pretty streight foward but something isnt right, seems like something has to push down on the large ball at the top of the spring to give the small balls enough outward pressure to catch ridge, (my valve is mounted so the detent cap is at a upward angle), any help would be greatly appreciated, seems like im missing something simple, thanks..

I can look in my manual tomorrow and see if has anything in it, if you want.

No mater how your valve is mounted, the cap must be allowed to drain, even if you have to bore some hoses in a new location.

Check the indent on the spool for a sharp edge. You should be able to rotate the spool 180 and give the balls a new place to drop into.

im not sure of correct terminology, i removed the cap with 2 alan screws, then thiers a sleeve with a ridge inside it , which im guessing provides the detent, then i slid that off and theres the 5 ball bearings ,4 sit in holes on the sides of the end of the spool (i think) and 1 on top with a spring sitting down under it. i tried to reassemble the way the parts diagram shows but the balls dont seem to be catching on the ridge, i greased them to help hold them in while i reassembled could that be causing a problem? ill try to insert my valve diagram but im a rookie at this to!

Did you make sure the shaft the 4 balls go on is screwed all the way into the spool?

yes, when i screwed it in it definately bottomed out, im really wondering if greaseing the balls could be causing them not do what there supposed to, unless i here that paople grease them normally my next step will be to clean the grease off and see if it makes a difference..

Is that valve a Kubota generic valve or a Prince valve or some other brand?

im guessung its kubota, when i looked up my loader (la682), on kubota's parts search, the diagram for the valve is my setup, thats how i ordered the detent repair kit, thats the diagram im going by for reasseblly.

I hate to celebrate someone else's misery, but this thread saved me from a couple of (more) hours of knuckle busting aggravation. I bought a detent kit for a BX1800 I'm working on and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. Like you I was putting the spring loaded bearing below the smaller detent bearings.....I couldn't figure out how to do it otherwise. After giving up and searching Google I found this thread.....it only took me a couple of minutes to figure out how to get the bearing right and now it works perfectly. Thanks for your help!!!

Going to need a "third hand" you are looking at it wrong. The large ball would just fall out for nothing retains it, so you put the large ball on the end of the springs and cut a short piece of tubing that you can depress the large ball(third hand) with the sleeve on install the small balls and slide the detent sleeve to compress the small balls.

spring in, big ball, depress with a small screwdriver, 4 small balls in the holes then the sleeve over the top (ensure the sleeve is the correct orientation), then remove the screw driver. In the factory we use some grease to a) help with assembly, b) reduce corrosion, c) reduce friction when not in detent.

Thanks much all. Jasong123, your clarification of procedure worked perfectly. I did have to ask my wife to provide the third hand which is always a potential for failure but after a few times it worked perfectly.

Older thread and I'm not sure if anyone is still around.

On my 9210 FEL When I lower the bucket I have to pretty much force it past what feel like a bind. When it starts to lower it sticks and I have to pull back past the bind again to get it to stop lowering.

So it appears to me from reading all this that I should remove the lower end, clean reseat the balls and spring.

Am I going in the right direction?
