You are better to get a new safety switch, as you can't lubricate it. To get started before you get one just manually pull the rubber coated post out (blue arrowed in beckmurph's post above) as far as it will go. It is very awkward to get to on my B3150 but not difficult to replace, just one bolt and and electrical connection.

Honest to God I had a piece of stick get into the PTO safety switch and prevent the electrical connection once. I would jump the starter directly from the battery with jumper cables and a screwdriver until I found the problem. I've used that trick on Craftsman lawn tractors to skip the solenoid as well.

Yes it's totally unsafe, so only do it if you're comfortable with the risks involved.

I do things like that now an then...don't ever let anyone tell you they don't. Thanks for the advice. Im going to try and figure how to get a wrench up in there an tighten it up

Watching this as my B7800's HST switch is also out of whack. Takes a lot of stomping and wiggling to engage the switch. NOTE: this thread popped up in my e-mail from the sites "Highlighted posts" mailing; had I seen this thread when it was first started I'd have mentioned this switch (I have lived with it for a LONG time [during my last major maintenance, valve adjustment etc., I was going to address it but soon found that I wasn't up for the headache]).

I rationalized this finicky switch as being an anti-theft deterrent.;)
