Kohler engine question

I have a 20 hp Kohler that has decided to ruff ruff and dump gas into the oil..

Is that due to the needle valve in the float tank sticking?

That might do it but it would also help to know what series of a Kohler it is.

Does it have a fuel pump?

If that diaphragm lets go it will dump fuel in to the oil too.

It is a Magnum M20

you might want to check and see if the crankcase breather tube is clogged. I've noted similar issues with a Briggs and a clogged tube.

Magnum 20s used a mechanical cam driven pump. I bet the fuel is coming from there too.

if you are talking about the needle valve sticking in the float tank, ie., the float sticking in the carb. yes check it. If it is stuck in the down position, where it lets fuel into the carb. it would definately dump the gas in oil. zman

If you think it is the mechanical fuel pump, take it off and work the lever and see if fuel comes out anywhere except the fuel pump outlet. If you think the needle float valve is sticking, clean it or replace the needle valve, then install a fuel shut off valve.

I will check out all that you folks have advised.. For now, I put a shut off in the fuel line....... Seems to be working...

I did lose the mechanical fuel pump on my Kohler Command 20 hp at about 250 hours. There are parts in there that are "staked" to retain them, and if enough metal isn't displaced, they fail. Mine runs right off a valve stem so it sure gets a workout.
