I have a 8hp kohler that when it warms up starts to blow oil out of the breather is this a broken ring, or a valve problem? It seems to be buiding up pressure in the crankcase for some reason! thanks in advance! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

dp509,

That sounds like you called it right, a broken oil control ring.
It wouldn't take to much to check it. Piston and rings shouldn't cost too much.

The crankcase breather may be incorrectly installed or defective. I can't remember how it is but they will do this if the breather is not right.

Ditto on the crankcase breather....If it is malfunctioning your crankcase loses the vacuum it creates to keep the oil in. In most cases they are just gummed up.

My 12 horse Kohler was blowing oil, and the problem was the crankcase breather. The breather on mine is a metal box with spring loaded valve in it. The box also has a drain hole in it. A previous owner had removed the breather and put it back in with the drain hole up. The breather would fill with oil and couldn't drain. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
