Kohler 18 hp

I have a Snapper 2000 Gs with a Kohler 18hp motor on it. The motor will run good for a while and then it starts sputtering and cuts off. When I check under the hood the fuel filter does not have any gas in it. I wait a few minutes and it fills with gas, The motor starts and I can mow for a while until this happens again. Replaced fuel filter last season. Could this be the fuel pump. Any suggestions ? Thanks

I would replace the fuel lines and filter first, but that's just me.

An old Magnum opposed? If so, a fuel pump is the very likely culprit. It is a trait of these mechanical pumps as they age as the check valves stick. Sidemouse's thoughts certainly have merit as well.

NEXT TIME

When you are observing the empty fuel filter, open the fuel tank cap and see if the fuel does not "rush in". A stopped up fuel tank vent can cause symptoms as you describe.

Blame it on mud wasps! ;-)

Thanks for all the feed back. I took the fuel pump out and cleaned it good. It appeared to have trash in it. After this it seems to run good. Thanks Again!
