Knife building?

Anyone build thier own? there was a guy that came by work and picked up cable to make knives out of.This was one his 1st ones.Dont have any pics of others, but he got better as time went on.
Seems like it would be fun, may have to try one once my "project board" clears up some

Sometimes when the need arises or the mood strikes. This paring knife was made from a larger butcher knife blade and Ipe scales cut with my trusty old table saw.

I made a few out of old hacksaw blades back when I was a kid. I haven't done anything since. I've taken up refurbishing old knives rather than building new. Nothing like that feeling of shaving a few hairs off your arm with a knife that wouldn't cut butter when you got it.

There was a TBNer that posted some very nice pictures of some top quality knives he made. I'll see if I can find the thread and post a link.

I used to know a man that came by my shop every so often looking for old 18 wheeler wheel bearing races. He would show me the knives he had made with them. They were beautiful works of art. He said the bearing races were the best steel he could find to work with. I wish I had pics to show here.

I have made a couple of knives out of old circular saw blades...I cut the knife blades out of the circular saw blade and then ground and polished them, drilled the holes for the handle and then cut the handles out of red oak on one and hickory on the other and put a nice finish on them then drilled holes to match the blade holes and riveted ...They came out nice. The only thing I bought was the rivets...I had all the rest on hand.
