I am looking for chain guards for my 6' King Kutter rotary cutter. Anyone know where to get them and how much?
Thanks

The only place I would know of is Tractor Supply Co. I've got a 4' kk and will be welding up my own probably alot cheaper.

Went to Tractor supply but they did not have them. I am not sure the girl behind the counter knew what I was talking about. I guess I will make my own.
What size chain should I use?

You can try kingcutter them selfs. The front one welds on I was told, and the back one bolts on,and they are not cheap. RICHARD GAUTHIER

Gutterman, I just picked a picture at random here for you to look at. The chain guard is the row of chains around the lower rear of the cutter shown to prevent the blades from throwing objects out from under the cutter. Front chain guards are also available and advisable.

Gutterman, chain guards on rotary mowers (bush hogs) are a series of short chains hanging vertically down in front of the openings on the back and front of the mower. Rotary mowers can throw a rock or other hard object a considerable distance and be a danger if anyone is in the area. There are stories of rocks from a mower breaking windows, penetrating the siding of a barn or doing serious damage to an individual and the chain guards help prevent this. Even with chain guards it is best to make sure the area is clear of people when mowing. Hope that helps explain the term.

I have a BushHog SQ60. I called my dealer yesterday to inquire about purchasing chain guards. He told me my particular model (size) does not have chain guards, but does have a steel plate that can be mounted at the rear of the deck and a rubber guard that is mounted at the front of the deck. No chains because blades are too close to deck and would get under deck and be hit by blade. Cost of the two will be $70. Based on what I have been reading on this site, I would not bush hog without guards.

Looks like the chain guards would be pretty simple to make. I have a Howse 6ft just like the one in Bird's link...I think I'll try making them vs purchasing from Howse.

I considered making chain guards for my 42" Howse brush mower. But when I factored in the cost of material, cutting the chain and making the 100 or so 1"by 5/8" slots in 1/4" thick angle iron, I paid the $150 to have front and rear chain guards delivered to my front door. I suppose it would be easier to weld the chains on, but I thought the $150 was a pretty fair price.

Would bolting a thick rubber flap to the rear of the bushhog where the chain go work? I was thinking of doing this with some 1/2" thick rubber I had laying around. I thought it would be better than nothing.

Another use for stall mats.....? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Try Howse Implements themselves... the front chain guards/mount assembly for a 6' cutter is ~~ $60-70. plus freight... versus fiddling around trying to make them individually...

Re: KK chain guard - rubber

<font color="green">Saw a KK XB 4 foot rotary cutter at my local farm store and it had a rubber guard instead of chains.

You can order them direct from KingKutter or one of their dealers such as TSC...

But... somehow I vaguely remember them to be rather pricy... I suggested Howse because they will work and the price was actually a bargain... (You may have to modify a few holes on the mount...)
