I frequently work on my cars and use the OBD scanners/tools every now and then.
Does Kioti have something similar that works for it? Would car diagnostic scanners work on tractors too?
I'm not familiar with tractors, but I imagine they all have onboard computers and give errors codes like cars do...

Not on your life. This is the reason why so many tractor people will not upgrade to 'chipped' machines. The 'chipped' machine would either will stop working or go into limp mode. ONLY a dealer of that brand would be able to fix the issue or override the limp mode.

This is the reason for the 'Right to Repair' lawsuits and fights to pass legislation.

Kioti Tractor Compatible Diagnostic Scan Tool Fault Code Reader

from Lawn & tractor offers the above code scanner. Is this a scam or real?

Depending on the machine’s protocol (“Computer language”) you might be able to use a J1939 truck scanner, but they’re very pricey and they won’t read all the codes.

I’ve done it with Deeres and they pick up some of the drivetrain faults but nothing else.

Some tractors will throw codes straight to the dash, and you can find those codes in your manual or through the manufacturers literature.

YMMV.

I’ve been thinking about ordering this one see if it will work. I started a thread a month ago or so to see if anyone had any experience with this one but no one seems to have any.

That website reeks of a scam to me, but IDK.

I bought the version for an LS. Hooked it up and it read all the correct stuff. Haven’t had to do any diagnostics with it, yet.

You bought yours through the lawn and tractor web site above?
How long did it take to arrive if so.

I think it took a week or two-don’t recall.

They were very responsive when I had questions regarding where to find the onboard connector as the service manual for my tractor was less than clear on where it was.

Ok thank you. I will probably try one , just to see how it works out then.

Just wanted to update this on the scanner I ordered.
I ordered the scanner on Dec 22nd, received it on Dec 29th.
The scanner is a Nexas Nexlink NL102
The CEL hasn’t been on for over 25 hours and wasn’t on when I received the scanner but hooked it up real fast and it did show a code stored, I looked at freeze frame real fast and it did show a P0374, which my factory service manual lists as lost signal from the Crank Sensor, and also shows while this code is active it will have a CEL, high idle, reduced torque. Which it did, when it was active. With all the holidays and weather conditions over the last month I have not looked into a cause as of yet, I’m guessing a wiring issue , but could be a bad sensor or something else. The scanner appears to just be a basic heavy duty truck scanner and also a standard OBDll , I’ve not seen anything specific to Kioti but again only plugged it in for a few minutes when I first received it, looking around the net, the same scanner can be had for less than the the link above. But so far it has done what I needed it to do, and would have cost me as much as the purchase price plus time to have hauled it 2 hours one way to a dealer to check the code. Hope this i fo helps someone else out in the future.
