Having problem with battery discharge i charge it up and let sit for a day ore so and go back and check it and it reads just under 12 volts turn switch on and it start to drop a little more and when start to use glow plugs it reads 10 volts.ande also having trouble starting when cool around 60 degrees or so in the summer not as bad.

My guess is a bad battery, I don't think you should see such a big voltage drop under load, probably a short in one of the cells. You might take the battery to an auto parts store and have it load tested and probably replaced.

Napa has an inexpensive load tester which I frequently use to test batteries. Part # bk7001112 You can test batteries right in the tractor or vehicle. Retails for around $65 but mighty handy. Easy to use just follow the instructions included. Also tests alternator output.

I would tend to agree with the "bad cell" thoery, if the battery checks out OK after doing a "load check" then you may have a "pinched" wire somewhere. Check under the dash, under the floor pan and any unused factory wiring around the 3pt area. Another idea is to fully charge the battery, remove the fuses, let set a day or two and check batt voltage, if the voltage is about the same as when you charged it, then you know you have a bad wire somewhere.

If I am not mistaken you should be checking amperage. A 12 Volt battery will read 12 volts on an ampmeter unless it is almost completely shot.

How does an ammeter read volts? I thought volt meters did that. Maybe I've been doing something wrong the last 32 years.

And if I was to replace my battery! I would only use a Optima !!!!! 750 cca , never have acid spills , will hold a charge for a long time , well worth the extra cost $135.00 at most Auto parts stores. Tim in Mi.
