Tiller KingKutter Tiller Performance

Just finished abusing my 72" KK tiller for the 2nd time and I am thoroughly pleased with it's performance. My "tilling grounds" are mostly spruce/tamerak/ and other conifer woodlots than I have removed the trees from and then went through with a boxscraper to remove roots and other debris. The problem is, sometimes large chunks of root systems are left in the ground when the tree is pushed over, hiding in the dirt and waiting to attack the unsuspecting tiller. I finally found out what a "slip clutch" sounds like when 20# chunk of old root wedged itself in the blades of the tiller and I needed a mallet to "tap" out the piece of wood. This happened two other times, but both of those pieces did not stick. The other smaller roots and debris-some up to 2 inches, seem no match for the tiller, and the tiller has performed better than expected.
The tiller is a great match for my L4610 and I appreciate the comments from this site that led to my recent tiller puchase decision. Thanks!!

I was using my 60" KK tiller last weekend and heard a loud bang! I was sure I broke something (the last time I heard a noise like that I twisted a drive axle in my truck) and sure enough, I did break something. Not the tiller though - I broke a rock that was buried in hard clay that was about 5" in diameter and about 10" long right it half! There was no damage to the tiller.

Not that I would use it any harder than I already do, but it is nice to hear stories like that just to give you peace of mind when using the tiller. There are a lot more roots and covered stumps to till into but I'm starting to feel a little better about finding them.
