I've had my King Kutter 60" tiller for over 4 years now.
I like it.

I bought a 60" KK tiller 4 or 5 weeks ago have not used it yet, too much rain in southeast MI. Run a search on KK tillers and the majority of the feedback is very positive, gear driven and very stout. If you get one it has been recommended to check the slip clutch, as some have stated they are set very tight from the factory, and need to be loosened up a bit to slip when required.

I have the KK 72", it's well built and I would buy it again. I've had it for 5 years and have easily tilled 40 acres with it. The only maint I've done is to grease it every few hours, and reset the slip clutch every spring.

My 60" is a month old. It does a truly amazing job on my mostly clay garden. I'm pleased.
My JD 855 is 24 hp, like your smallest tractor. It handles the 60" tiller in clay very well. Also, I think the KK 48" costs the same as their 60" model.

Wow!! Tilling my small garden twice a year will take a lifetime to total 40 acres. Are the tines holding up well? Do they ever need to be sharpened?

I believe the tines are self sharpening. I've never sharpened them and have never broken one. I had a couple of loose tines 2 or 3 years ago, I pulled them all off and used lock tight on the nuts and replaced the lock washers. The rear gate and the top of the tiller are banged up pretty good from picking up rocks.

I suppose you could sharpen them if you wanted to, but sure do think it would be a waste of time, not help them do a better job, and just wear them out quicker.

Ok, I appreciate the input. When I first looked at my tiller I thought the tines were blunt and just L shaped metal with no edge at all. Looking closer, I saw there was a nice fairly sharp cutting edge ground on the leading edges. It amazes me how fast grass can dull steel mower blades, so I just supposed that dirt would dull till tines pretty quick, too. I don't especially look forward to sharpening all those tines, but just thought I would ask if that was something I should consider as they wear. I know Bird tills all the time, and anybody with 40 acres under their belt has a world of experience over me. Thanks guys.
