Kerdi shower system, a do it yourself project?

Kerdi is by all means a DIY solution for a shower build. I'd recommend spending a few $ and get the Kerdi Shower Book (a PDF). Follow it, and it will work. If you want a forum about everything tile, visit John Bridges Tile Forum lots to read and they are a helpful bunch.

The off center drain is a piece of cake with a mud deck, it absolutely would not be an issue. The floor slope is not rocket science, start with a 24" level, pack the mortar mix with a trowel and screed. Before applying the kerdi, inspect for high spots that are easily rubbed smooth.

One HUGE advantage with the Kerdi shower is when grouting the tile, grout the corner like the field. Skip the caulk in the corner, it looks like crap. I suspect the kerdi spans the corner with just enough give to keep the grout from cracking. I did my kerdi shower 10 years ago and there's not a single crack in any corner.

All the best.

I remodel bathrooms as a business and use kerdi on every shower. Go over to the John Bridge forum and and start a project thread for yourself, they are really nice people. I can also answer any questions you might have.

I prefer a mud bed shower floor over the EPS Schluter system, especially for a non centered drain.
