I have the Kioti ck30 hydro w/ the front end loader and the KB2375
A little over a year ago the bottom pin that holds the boom in place feel out and then one of the hydraulic pistons snapped off.
My local dealer put a new pin in and welded the shaft back together

Since it has been fixed I have only used the backhoe for maybe 100 hours.
Today I was digging in pure mud, no rocks and the same thing happened again today
I dont know why this keeps happening. asked the dealer if there was a issue with this model, he said he has only had it happen twice and one of the times was me.
This time its worse the upper pin steel bracket is bent.

anyone have any ideas?
here are the pictures

If this has happened twice with one dealer, it could be a nationwide problem with your backhoe model. I think you should also get Kioti directly involved.

Yes same dealer, same backhoe, happened twice within a year or so
I asked the dealer and they said they have not had any issues with it.
They dealer picked it up today. I will call them tomorrow

Have him look up service bulletins

I have a KB2375 and haven't had any issues with it other than one of the valve blocks for the right stabilyzer not feeding smoothly and that was replaced under warranty. I just finished digging a 300' x 2 1/2' deep ditch in some nasty stone/clay/tree roots ground and it's still working well. There's been plenty of other hard jobs the bh has completed for me. Something doesn't seem right if it keeps breaking but I don't have a clue as to what. I just keep mine well greased at all the fittings and it keeps on going.

I'd ask the dealer to check the serial numbers of your BH and the other guy's and see if they are close together. If so it could be a batch of bad steel at the foundry or something similar..??
I'm not seeing a lot of recent grease in those joints? How often do you grease the zerks? Are you the original owner of the hoe?
What is the threaded bolt attached to in pic #3?
What is the silver thing going left to right from low to high in pic 3?

Happened to me, twice. I blame poor design and me. I think the problem is the small bolt that holds pins in place at bottom of pin. They break over time and when passing over very rough roads too fast. First time, I had just started digging after driving over stone path. Second break occured when in transit, not digging. Once the bolt breaks, pin drops out (because there is no top hat/crown to hold it from falling through). Once pin drops enough to free one or both pivot plates, bad things happen including the same break on cyl knuckle as you. I have had two new pins made that are same dimensions as old but have a top hat/crown. I will take photo's after work and post.

Here is a photo of the pin I had made. Same dimensions as OEM except I added the top-hat. Drilled the zerk and it's good to go.

I do grease it regularly
I am the second owner, It had 85 hours on it when I bought it, used very little, looked like new
The threaded bolt in pic 3 I think you are asking about is the bolt that holds the upper pin in place
The silver looking thing is nothing more then a twig.

I called Kioti yesterday and explained the situation. She said there are no known issues like mine. She said she would contact my dealer to make sure they get the local Kioti Rep involved to see if its a manufacturer defect and if it is they will cover parts only.

My dealer has been really good to me so far. When I spoke with my salesman yesterday he offered me a deal to get out of this BH.
He said he would take my backhoe back on trade for the new KB2475 and the difference would be $2700. out the door.
He told me when a customer comes in to do a trade like this the price is $3500

Does anyone know if this is a good deal?

Thanks
Ken

What matters is do YOU think it is a good deal? Are you able to afford to move into another BH at this time and do you use any BH enough to justify the price of a trade? Or do you want to find out what it will cost you to refix this one, hopefully permanently- with the suggested mod of the capped pin with built in Zerk?
If you can afford a trade it might be your best bet- but remember it only comes with a 1 yr. warranty.

Im on the fence about the trade in, I do use the backhoe a good amount.
From what Kioti told me on the phone, at best only parts will be covered, so money will be coming out of my pocket no matter what the outcome.

I like the custom pin that Avondale made, I dont have the ability to make such a part and Im sure my dealer would put it right to me to make that.

As far as, "If I think its a good deal" I have always been the type of person that looks at, will I get my money back if I need to sell it or trade it in on something else.

The OEM pins have zerks but I do not think grease is an issue with regards to these failures. My problem was the pin falls out when the retaining bolt breaks. Bouncing on rough roads will surely break these small bolts regardless of grade. Once a pin has fallen out (upper or lower) the BH is free to roam off the hinge plates and damage will occur with that much weight blowing in the breeze. Damage can occur while tractor jostles down the rough path or while in use, slewing with one pin gone will throw the BH off the frame hinge plate and the cyl will break off.

The cap is not the only solution, i.e. weld on a retaining clip across the top, build a catch screen on bottom, etc. I am lucky to have work at a place that can easily machine stuff but would think a simple design such as mine would not be very expensive at most machine shops. IF your dealer is a real good guy, he may know someone in the machine shop biz to solve this at a very reasonable price. If the replacement BH has not resolved thie original issue, you may well face this problem again and be that much poorer for it.

Avondale, what steel did you use? did you harden it?
