Don't get me wrong, I've used K&N products and I've got a Typhon setup on my Challenger. I did switch out the K&N cone shaped filter for a AFE though. I've also never had a problem with using them, but I didn't like the looks of the inside of the intake tube on my Challenger. I thought it looked like fine dirt was getting through.

WOW.... OK, Umm.... You got me, I can't counter that. Like the old saying, every man to his own liking.

I have personally used them for 15 plus years in gas and diesels with no ill effects.

I don't think they are the greatest for the force fed engines. Like others have said more filter would be best. You have a 7.3 look up a tymar filter. They out flow out filter anything available, very simple and inexpensive. I would not sacrifice filtration for flow. If I wanted more flow I would add more filter surface area.

Yeah me too, but I see no need to continue to say it. Just let it go.

I put a complete K&N setup on my 1997 7.3. After reading many less than stellar reviews I sold the filter element/sock itself, kept all the hardware intact and went with a Donaldson marine type/water resistant filter element that fit into the K&N's filter box.
But when time to change comes around I'll do a Donaldson or NAPA replacement filter without the water resistance. Not needed in my application and way more money.
Sorry Soundguy. Like most of the answers here, mine didn't help you out much either!

I had a 95 Chev with the seriously anemic 6.0 diesel. Bought it new on the lot in 97...for a steal. Took it straight to the diesel performance shop and had a Banks Power Pack installed, which included new CAI with K&N filter, and upsized piping through the turbos to the tail pipe. Added a chip, and that gutless wonder turned into a striped ape. She was still going strong pulling trailers daily until it was stolen with over 200k on the odometer.

LOL if a 6.5 felt like a striped ape after mods a stock 6.6 would feel like a cruise missile.
