Greetings all. I have a New Holland 1725 (1998 vintage) 3 cyl diesel, 4WD Ag tractor (made in Japan) with a front loader and Woods backhoe w/15" bucket. It has a manual 9/3 transmission and I also have an auger attachment that mounts on the 3pt hitch and is driven from the PTO.
It's not a bad little tractor and we've been able to get lots of work out of it over the past few years (purchased used in 2004 from Union Farm Equipment in Union, Maine). It has only required normal maintenance over the years and I haven't experienced any major breakdowns.
The latest problem though is a stuck/frozen clutch. I've tried all sorts of things to free it up without success. Today I tried readjusting the clutch linkage but it probably won't help much. I'm at the point where I'm considering the possibility of splitting the tractor in two and renewing the clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, etc.
I have a New Holland shop manual, all the tools, and I'm self employed as a motorcycle/atv mechanic, but I'm not looking forward to this job. As much as I appreciate all the work this little tractor can do (and has done), everything on it is so compact and crowded, and it's a pain in the butt to get at just about anything. It's not the easiest machine to work on. That's my petty little ***** for the day.
I've seen this site a few times in the past but just joined today. I figured this is a good place to share my grief with others going through the same thing. Maybe kick around a few ideas and thoughts on various subjects, and discover sources for used attachments/equipment as my wife and I develop our small farm in Downeast Maine.
