WIN8.1 has blazing-fast startup and shutdown.
You ARE kidding, I presume.

first off - windows 8.1 users were supposed to get win9 free updates this month , but MS decided to skip and go straight to windows 10 . They were going to bring back the start button but combine the tiles format IN the start button. sigh!
anyways If your camera can detect whether you take pictures vertically or horizontally (usually by using a sensor that can tell how the camera is oriented), your computer can automatically rotate JPEG pictures to the correct orientation when they are imported. If you use this option, you will not have to manually rotate pictures that appear sideways on your computer, and it does not affect the image quality of your pictures. Windows does this by default, but you can turn this feature off.
In windows gallery app -So question is - does your camera has a orientation sensor? of not, it will not auto rotate for you. doesnt matter if it a hand held or phone type. If it does, you can turn the feature on, but I am baffled since I thought it was on by default.

Thank you for all the help you guys are trying to give me. I appreciate it.
I found out that my camera does have a sensor to detect horizontal or vertical hold position. It can't be turned off. And the windows 8.1 photo viewer does indeed rotate the picture automatically so it is viewed in the correct orientation when a vertical ( Portrait ) picture is taken. But, and a big but if you upload the picture to TBN or other forums it is not automatically rotated and appears 90* off just like the camera was held. If you then rotate the original ( that was originally displayed correctly ) by 90* in an attempt to correct the uploaded images low and behold the uploaded images are now rotated 90* to far. I kid you not. There is no way I can make it upload a portrait oriented photo.
The only other big problem (so far) I have had with 8,1 was connecting the email to a pop3 device, but I got thru that one in two days after a call to the phone company which I should have done first.
I have WIN8, keep getting popups saying free WIN8.1 upgrade is available ... lipstick on a pig. Just going to wait for WIN10 next year.
