I'd take the cold any day over what the Californians have to pay for housing.

I had -25F Friday morning, so cold your nose hairs froze.

In 1983 I paid $11,500 for my first house in Oakland CA.... I think it would sell from 150k 32 years later...

My last purchase was about 10 years ago as Real Estate started to boom... a 1725 square foot 1958 Ranch Style home with a detached shop have 10 antique cars inside (Very Rare in the City) on one acre... it set me back 598k and dropped to about 380k in 2009 and now is about 625k.

California Real Estate is very cyclical... at least our property tax increases are limited to a max of 2% per year... that place I bought for $11,500 has a $900 property tax bill now... so a little more than 1/2 % of value.

Utility rates are very high... don't use much... last months natural gas for heat and hot water was $35 and electricity with the shop about $70... not too bad for the dead of winter.

75 F today with blue skies... fruit trees are already in full bloom.

The people that I talk to that really hate winter are the ones that stay inside and don't do anything.

Yea we do. We post on TBN how much we hate this winter!!!!:D

Our high today was a balmy 6F. Pretty good! we also got about 2" of snow. This is also good.

As for winter apparel, I wear a quilted shirt over top of a T-shirt. When it gets down to -40F then I might put on a winter coat to warm up the jeep.

Today and for the rest of the coming week except for Monday the highs are forecast for above zero. I think we are coming out of the 'deep freeze'.

I barely ever wear a coat or jacket in the winter time. I do keep a canvas duck coat in the back seat of my Durango all the time though just in case.

A couple of layers of cotton shirts, a sweatshirt and my ski vest (a gift from the nurse) says "Okemo" on it :D. It is actually HH product nice and lightweight, warm too. And around zero I like to layer in a cotton hoodie under the vest.

Only when I plow with the tractor do I wear anything else heavier. Then it's a set of insulated coveralls...open station you know.

Winter can be nice especially when the sun is out. Need to stay active and with fresh air, Walking around inside the mall isn't going to work for me!

I can't wander around malls or most other places that have floors on concrete. My knees hurt too much for that. I will walk in, but I will hobble out. IF I must go into a mall, I usually get a manual wheelchair from customer service and ride around instead.
