Just Bought Me a Milling Maching

I just purchases a used milling machine. I have never really used one before but the price was right and it just might come in handy. Included were all the cutting tools and two interesting vices. Now all I need is a project to start.

The fellow who sold me the milling machine had two metal lathes as well. I missed those. He's moving into a senior's home and has a ton of tools to sell as well. Included with the milling machine was a box of tooling and cutters. I hope to set it up this weekend and go through the boxes and try it out. He's a really nice guy.

I see lots of large machines for sale but very few of these small bench top machines. This one is a busy bee brand with a 3/4 hp motor. Made in 1968.

That indexing head is nice, and expensive too. It will be a favorite tool if you use your milling machine a lot.

That's what I wanted to say, I could get full size machines around here for probably less than you paid for that but what would I do with them? put em in the yard. That's a good size, not to small or to large, is it 110V or 220.
Never really thought about owning a lathe or milling machine until just recently.

Nice purchase. Ive had my eyes open for a mill and a lathe, but they never come up at a reasonable price. I didnt realize Busy Bee has been around since 1968

We have a grizzly 2hp bench top mill/drill that works great for home projects.
have used it for all manner of projects.

It's 110V 3/4HP. I figure it must weigh around 300-350lbs and only uses up a few square feet of shop space. I had to take it apart to remove it from the seller's basement. I hope to have it set up by the week end. My sons are really excited about it. They are both using milling machines in shop class at school.

I wish they had offered that when I was in school. I took welding and small engines, both of which have been very handy. We don't have a community college here so very hard to get some basic learning/experience now.

I bought a bench mill from MSC several years ago and it is accurate. I also mounted a lathe chuck on a modified collet and clamped the lathe tool in the vise. I bored the bearings for my mini hay press using this method. A very useful machine.
