ford commander 6000
I just purchased a ford commander 6000, The rear tires are locked and will not turn unless you lift the front end and rotate the tractor?? then they rotate freely. I did read about the tractors having lots of transmission issues. Can someone lead me in the right direction in troubleshooting this? Clutch? Shift cable stuck in park? help ??

On all Fords with the SOS transmission the rear tires will not turn unless the engine is running.
So Ford put a traction disconnect on them which you must move in order to get it to roll.
I am not familiar enough with the 6000s to tell you which side of the rear center housing yours in on but there will be a little lever on the side - in front of the axle somewhere that you have to turn the lever about 1/5 of a turn. Some have a bolt that you unscrew first, some you can just move. You may have to rock the tires back and forth a bit to get it to move. Don't force it. Then you can tow or move the tractor as needed.

Thanks a million Ultradog, Now once I figure out the gear selector, I will try and fire the beast up :) The indicator label is worn pretty bad, I can read the 10 forwards but the other are a challaenge. The hour meter reads 3200 so she may have a few more years left in her. Thanks again Jim
