My Joy stick is locked. I moved the locking mechanism and was able to get it to lower and raise, but I tried everything and couldn't get it to curl or dump. I pulled the locking mechanism up, looked inside, and couldn't determine where the problem was. Everything looked okay. The temperature is in the single digits to the low teens, if that makes any difference. Any ideas what I need to do?

Is your joystick direct mounted n the directional valve or are there cables between joystick and directional valve? If cables they can get moisture in them and freeze.

What tractor?

When was the last time it worked?

Is it stored inside?

I see you have a Branson. My tractor is a Century. I bought it new in 2004. The Century I have is a 2410, which I think is the same as the Branson 1024. (They look the same except for the logo. My joy stick is on the fender with cables to the valves. How would I get the water out, or is there somewhere I can put a torch to thaw it out? By the way, a great tractor, I only have 4 to 500 hours on it, never had one problem other than having to clean the battery ground where it is attached to the farm, and that was just this summer. By the way, the original battery lasted 20 years.

Yeah, it is stored inside. I had it running yesterday when I installed the 3-point blade. I had raised and lowered the blade several times then. I doubt if I tilted the bucket then. But it did raise and lower the bucket yesterday, but when I tried to do it today, the bucket wouldn't raise. But it did break free after a half minute or so. But I still can't tilt the bucket. Thanks for the reply.

I would see if you can follow the cables from the joystick base to the directional valve. If yes look for low spot or an area where moisture might collect. If you using torch be careful to not melt or damage the cable.

I just rolled over 1,000 hrs on my 2400H with no major problems.

Kindly explain the actual symptoms with a bit more detail...

In normal operation, likely the joystick moves up and down (North and South) to raise or lower the arms of the FEL.

Then moving the joystick side to side (or East and West) causes the bucket to curl and dump.

Now when you say it's locked (or frozen)...

Does that mean the joystick no longer moves East and West...
(or)
Does that mean the joystick physically moves East and West OK, but the expected bucket action does not curl or dump?

It moves north and south normally. At first, it wouldn't move north and south. After fooling with it for a while, it started working. I never could get it to curl or dump. As some have suggested, I think it is frozen in the control valve. The levers are on the fender are not mounted to the control valve. I didn't get around to working on it today. I finished the job with my smaller tractor. I will try thawing it tomorrow.

Sounds like there is water in the end of the control valve and froze up. Some people call it a can.

Start the tractor up and let it run for 10 minutes or more to thaw the loader valve.

It should function normally after working a bit.

Works every time on my Kubota B2910.

I ran the tractor for two or three hours, clearing the driveway with a blade on the three-point. The loader would raise and lower. I didn't try to work on it today. I had a bunch of trees I cut last spring, and during the summer, I needed to burn the tops I had piled up waiting for a good snow so I wouldn't set the woods on fire. Additionally, I wasn't motivated to go out in weather that ranged from 3 degrees in the morning to 17 degrees in the afternoon. Actually, it wasn't too bad after I got out there. I had wished I had gotten an earlier start. The forecast doesn't indicate any improvement in the weather over the next 7-10 days. Actually, I can use the snow as I have a lot more tops and brush to burn. Twenty of thirty degrees would be a blessing.

If time is on your side, can you wrap a heating pad on the joystick mount for a couple of hours to warm and thaw it out? Might wrap a moving blanket over it to further insulate it while warming it.

Thanks, I will give that a try.

If you can get into the box or slip a straw though the seal, de-icer would work. You can also use a mix of alcohol and windshield wash fluid. About 50/50.
