Purchasing X585 or X595 soon. Can anyone explain difference (besides the 1") between 47" snowTHROWER and 46" snowBLOWER? Whats best for deep/heavy snow?

paultavilla,

Several questions come to mind before we even consider the snow issues: why the X series? Is size a consideration? What will your mowing conditions be like -- area, slope, trees etc. Will you be doing any loader work? Do you intend to do any tilling, post-hole digging or other 3PH work? The X series are awesome machines, but often a CUT or sub-CUT offers more bang for the buck.

As for your snow handling question: the 46" is a snowthrower; single stage, that operates by forcing snow into its impeller and "throwing" it out. The 47" is a snowblower that uses two stages (two driven impellers) to "blow" the snow. Both have their advantages. The snowthrower probably moves a large volume of snow quicker. Having only one shear point, it probably is better with gravel. The snowblower has two shear points (on each revolving blade) and can be a problem with gravel. On the other hand, the two-stage is probably better in heavy-wet snow, although there is a good chance the single-stage would work just fine.

My personal experience is with the 46" snowthrower, and I have never seen a situation that it couldn't handle.

Give us some more specifics, and perhaps we'll be able to help more. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks for your response. I have a low hours 345 which is more than I need for mowing, howerver I've moved to the mountains of NC and now need to move snow over a stone wall on large drive and definitely need 4WD for mowing as my 345 gets stuck on steep grade.

A little off of the question, but for the money you'll pay for a x5*5, you may want to look at the 2210. Same diesel motor as the x595 but I feel the motor is easier to service in the 2210. The 2210 comes standard with the rear PTO and 3pt hitch (another ~$1100 option on the x series machines). I had purchased a x485 and returned it to the JD dealer within two weeks (30 day promise from JD) and upgraded to the 2210. I love the thing.

I would love to be able to use the 2210 but the wooded, hilly mountain property I have needs a tight turning radius and low center of gravity. Even the 585 sits up rather high for my steep property. But, I will now check out the specs on the 2210.

I also have some short steep hills and even though the X585 sits higher the extra width makes me feel more comfortable that the 345 did. Also the 4wd and/or diff lock allows me to go up and down without slipping.

Similar here, old 2WD tractor got stuck out in the back lot. I had a Zero turn, and an old Diesel. I wanted to get to one tractor that would do everything I could ever need. Took delivery of a 2210 with 54" MMM and loader 2 weeks ago, and so far I love it. The loader can be installed or removed in just a minute or 2, and the mowing is great. Turning radius is not as tight as the X595, but the 2210 sure is versatile, and I think in the long run will hold it value much better /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

The turning ratio was one of the reason I went with the x485 originally (based on the specs). But after actually using both on my property, I found that the spec'd difference wasn't really what is experienced in real use (when comparing both in two wheel drive mode). I'm sure both (x585 vs 2210) in 4wd mode would be similarly comparable.

paultavilla, the "continuation" of this thread you started is a couple fairly recent ones compaing the X595 with the 2210. If you haven't used the "search" feature yet, you might give it a try. You'll find all kinds of good stuff!

The turning radius for the X585 is
INSIDE rear wheel 2wd 28 inches

The 2210 (according to the manual) MFWD Off (2wd?) is 88.6 in. which is measured OUTSIDE rear wheel.
So 88.6"-47.5" (outside tread width) is 41.1 inches

Therefore the best I can tell is that there is a difference in 2wd
but when I test drove a 2210 it seemed to turn as sharp as my 585.
Has anybody measured the uncut circle on a 2210?

Hi All,

Just checked the turning radius on my 2210 and it is 28" also. Just for grins, I also measured how far the 62" MMM sticks out past the wheels (~10"), so you can figure this combo will cut grass around 36" dia. tree beds. I don't remember my 425 being much better. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks, thanks, thanks to those of you who told me to consider a 2210 instead of a 595. I looked at one today with a F/E loader and thought it was centerfold material! I'll be buying it as soon as my 165 hour 345 sells. Now my big question is; do any dealers "deal" on price or is every JD dealer required to sell at list? If so what would a reasonable discount be?

paultavilla,

My own experience is that dealers will deal ~ 14-16% off of JD list. That goes for the tractor as well as the attachments/implements you buy. Also I've heard regional prejudices can and will apply. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My suggestion is go for some intense negotiations; who knows what you will end up saving. It's certainly worth a try!

Hi, Paul. I agree the 2210 is beautiful. However, I think you might be just a little confused right now. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I my neck of the woods (MD/PA) I can buy the 2210 w/ the 210 FEL (53" bucket) for ~ $10,700 ($13,200 list ~19% off list) - $300 JD attachment incentive...net $10,400.

I priced a 2210/FEL/62C here in TN at $13,800. If you price this same thing on Deere.com it comes to $15,214. So the dealer is giving a little over 10% discount. Another dealer only wanted to give about 5%. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

JD Fanatic-
I also measured the turning radius like you did and got 52” D/2 = 26”, but I have the 54C so it sticks out about 6”. 26”-6”=20 x2 =40” diameter uncut circle.

How about that your 2210 uncut circle is smaller than my X585!

paultavilla,

I just purchased 2210, 210 loader, 54C" deck, and filled rear tires here in Chicago area for $12950. 1st dealer (closest one to my house gave me something like $14250, and the best price he would do was $13,900. It pays to shop around. I think I could have done better, but proximity to dealer was more important than a few hundred dollars more. I liked the idea of Filled tires instead of the weight box.

Thanks to all who responed to my question and gave additional info. You have helped change my decision and am now purchasing a 2210 with FE loader , mower and rear blade. Special thanks to h20camper, JDFanatic, Maxfli, 44trxfun and DJLX. Another question: I've seen on this forum that a rear mounted snow blower/thower is available. Moreinfo? Is this one of the JD attachments? Since snow removal is one of the main excuses for purchasing this "tool" does this make sense in combination with FE loader instead of rear blade?? Also, dealer is recomending BushHog brand rear blade instead od JD/Frontier: what say you all?
