John Deere with B&S engine battery Indicater

While mowing with my old GT235 occasionally the Battery Indicater light will come on.By the time I get off mower and open the hood it's off. Thinking a bad connection but where to look? and ideas? Thanks

I have a GT 235 I bought used about 16 years ago. The battery light has been on since I bought the mower. I have never bothered trying to fix since it does not affect use.

I take it that the battery is still getting a full charge even when the light comes on. Have you measured the battery voltage after you have finished mowing?

A fully charged cell at 80 degrees F would show a specific gravity of 1.265. If all six cells are fully charged, an accurate digital voltmeter reading of battery voltage would show 12.68 volts.


Could well be a bad connection or your battery is getting ready to fail. How old is your battery?

Should your charging system and battery check out, I would think that the battery discharge sensor AM126691 could be the issue. That is if it is a 99 or 2000 model.

KInda late in the year to do much diagnosing.but will add a volt meter in spring when we start mowing but battery was replaced last summer...I'll look into the discharge sensor Thanks. MW
