I have a john deere JDX 300 1976 sled sitting in my barn. It has 1500 miles on it in excellent shape with the original cover. Wondering what it is worth? thanks

Go to NADA.com, then recreation vehicles. They may be able to tell you.

I checked NADA. I guess they don't have it. Try and see if you can find any for sale on vintagesleds.com

Its worth between 300 and 800 dollars depending on if its running or not.

Tritonman is about right, although I would say probably more towards the $300 price.

I was a Snowmobile dealer for over 30 years, and we just closed up operation last December. Dealers have no interest in machines of that vintage, so you have to find a buyer that is not only very mechanically inclined and able to do his own work, but also willing to scour the countryside for parts if needed.

The only new parts you may still be able to buy for it will be the standard run of the mill stuff like, drivebelts / sparkplugs / carb parts (possibly) / and other stuff the aftermarket boys still carry. Other parts that are more "machine specific" will only found at the "used" level, and many times, very difficult to locate.

With it sitting so long, my guess would be the track and many other rubber parts would need to be replaced, which ultimetely would cost more than the money it's worth.

There are the odd few out there that restore old sleds, but try to find the one guy that wants the particular one you have, and even then, he probably won't want to pay much for it. These guys do it as a hobby, so even the "collectors" don't want to put much into it up front.

In my opinion, your best way to get rid of it would be to find someone in your area that deals with the old stuff, and sell it to them for "parts", that's providing they are still interested in stuff that old. Not much demand left for those old girls.

thanks for the info guys. if it is only worth that I'll let my kids use it. It still runs great and thought a collector may want it before the kids wreck it. I appreciate it!

I just bought a 80 Deere Sport fire for $80 a month ago. Everything seems decent except the owner tried to rebuild the carb with a rock I think. I own a jet ski shop so the motor isn't a worry just need parts for the carb. And next summer the motor goes into the go kart.. LOL

The new technology on snowmobiles is like 10X what automobiles is, so a few year old sled is "dated". So, your 1976 is like a Model T to the auto industry, but the collector stuff really doesn't hold value.

There are a few out there that love old sleds, and pay good money for them, but its hard to find them.

As a snowmobiling enthusiast, I would not want to ride anything that is more than about 8 years old. They just ride rough, and beat you up.

I've got an old 300 sitting under a tarp that hasn't run in years,
the body/track are in excellant shape, but the seat is shot,
needs all new wiring/cables etc, and the motor would need
some work i'm sure. maybe someday

wonder what i could part it out for?

As I read this thread I was reminiscing about my old sled which dated to the 60's.....a Ski Do Olympic with a narrow track. (I think the track was about a foot wide?).

Back then, you had to be a gymnast to bring out the full potential of these machines. To turn sharply, one would stand on the running board and lean waaay out to bring the sled around while applying throttle, etc.

The leaf spring suspension in the front provided about 2" of travel...and none in the back. I think my single-cylinder engine was 299 cc's?....and I broke the crankshaft once. You became a pretty fair mechanic if you wanted to ride. EVERYTHING broke at one time or another.

Too bad your kids won't be more careful of it, and respect it for a usable toy. Maybe they need to earn their own sled? :)

I have to agree with the others, it's not worth a whole lot. Does bring back memories:)

Not much market for collector sleds. If it was a 2 cylinder tractor on the other hand...
The 70's was the peak of the snowmobile market, I don't think there's nearly the market now - climate change and economics, etc. So 70's sleds are basically a dime a dozen. There's a "dealer" near here who has a lot full of them. Probably just deals with them for local hobbyists or for fun.
