The vertical shaft on my JD MX6 rotary cutter just fell off while cutting grass! It looks like the shaft was laser cut into. The shaft must be defective. Any how, I am looking for a fix that is reasonably priced.
Thanks

Hate to tell you but it seems to be about a $1500 dollar fix. New shaft, stump jumper and gearbox. Lots of threads on here about this.

Not good. They don't sell parts so you are looking at a new gear box. Then the stump jumper more tan likely doesn't fit the new gear box.

I had one fail and it is used for parts now.

i would not pay to fix that shredder.it seems like the jd mx6 shredders are nothing but trouble.

I wouldn't go THAT far, as there are many on here who have been very pleased with our MX6 cutters...

BUT, I would agree with the consensus here to find something new to buy.

With a 5525, you should think about an MX8 if you can spare the cash.

How much cutting are you / have you been doing with the MX6?

There are some MX6s for sale on TractorHouse for decent prices used, too. The newer models with the non-Spanish made gear boxes seem to have a better track record than the one you are running.

I have the same model as you do, btw, OP. No issues here yet... fingers crossed.
