john Deere Finish mower

I was using my JD 261 finish mower when the belt broke and got wound up on the pulley after taking it off and going to the JD dealer to get a belt I got back and there was oil all under the mower does anyone have any idea what this might, be so I can get started taking it apart?

I would guess the input or output shaft seals of the gearbox got damaged by the belt, OR the bearing went bad on the output side and that took out the seal and the belt.

I have the same mowing deck and I know the seal is gone on the output end. Any idea where I can find a replacement seal and more importantly, instructions for replacing it?

You can buy the seal through any JD dealer...

Thanks, I managed to find and order the seal on-line from John Deere. Now I have to figure out how to remove the spindle and replace the seal. I haven't taken one apart before and I can't tell what holds it together or whether it is just old and stuck. Any help would be much appreciated
