John Deere 2555
Good evening, I purchased a John Deere 2555 4x4 tractor this last winter. I just had the alternator rebuilt and while removing/installing it noticed the fan/alternator belt is in bad shape. It has stretched enough that there isn't any adjustment left in it. Has anyone ever replaced a belt like this before? It appears the radiator may need to be removed and the front u-joint differential area may need to be removed also. It doesn't just slip off like in a car/truck. Any ideas would be a big help because hay season is starting very soon. Thanks.

You do not have to remove the radiator. The hydraulic pump coupling will have to be removed & the belt will come off.The coupling comes off the crankshaft at the front of the engine.

Good afternoon kwswan, thanks for the quick response. My apologies for responding so slowly but just had a chance to take a good look at the front of the motor. Is the coupling the piece that comes off the drive shaft from the hydraulic pump back to the crankshaft and is held on by 4 bolts which is then attached to the belt pulley? If so, once it is unbolted does it rotate so the belt can be slipped over the radiator fan and then between the coupling and pulley? Do you then know what the bolts need to be torqued to? I'm going to order a belt this week and hopefully get it on soon, the weather out here has been very wet and I haven't had a window to start haying yet. Thanks again for the help.

Yes & Yes on the shaft. I don't know on the torque specs. We finished the first cutting last week & will be done until next spring unless we get alot of rain in the next thirty days & the long term forecast is not calling for that.

Thanks a lot for the information. I'll call the dealer and get a torque spec for the bolts. The earliest it looks like I can start cutting is at or near the 4th of July. Thanks again.
